2 Questions.

1.) Is it a good game? This determines my answer. I would not play a game unless it was good, gay straight or otherwise.

2.) How "in your face gay" is the character if it's a guy? I don't think I would enjoy a game in which the lead male character constantly hit on other dudes, or spoke with a stereotypical lisp.

Well I've already played Gears of War (briefly), so I know what it's like to play a gay character.

Zing.

On a serious note, the homosexuality of the character would have to be fitting. It would just be stupid to chuck in a random gay character for the sake of political correctness.

I would say yes and no. Yes if the story is good and the character's interaction with other characters is tasteful and the homosexuality of the character isn't forced or giving in to stereotypes. No if it's the opposite of the aformentioned.
i think weve covered that, sparkle fags are tottaly annoying, but dont act like its some stereotype a bunch of manly men in a room made up to prove how gay gays are.

go to the gay bay, and find me one who isnt sickeningly colorful. if its a stereotype, its one they themselves created through shit like the pride parade
Rob Halford. He made leather and studs heterosexual.

That is my rebuttal.
i laughed pretty hard at that.

until i remembered he is gay.

then i laughed harder.

I just realized, I already play as a gay character.

Makes <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT55RcNU1ek>this fight all the more tragic.

"You're mocking me, aren't you?! Still... even if it's just his corpse, I'll take it back from you!"

We did already didn't we?

Squall in FF VIII
Tidus in FF X
Vaan in FF XII
Hohohoho, an FF hater. They clearly arent seen as all of these had some kind of romance bull storyline, but yeah there already has been... Is his name Link or something, yeah thats it Link. No straight man wears tights and a mini-skirt, or "tunic" (Yeah right, like anyone believes that.) :D
hahaha, not at all, i love final fantasy, even X-2... =S

Well, I dont like Vaan and Tidus can be annoying but Squall? The obviously gay one out of FF VIII was Irvine

Wait, you mean every male Square Enix character isn't gay?! I'm SHOCKED!
Have you played any Square Enix game? They all have a heterosexual romance storyline at some point, so no more Square Enix "help" for you at the glory hole.
Of course they do. It's hard to be taken seriously as a hero if you are gay, so they're thoroughly closeted.

So you really do need them to be gay, huh? Your arguement is that anybody that likes girls is a closeted homosexual... Hmm, well i never.
Really, I've never seen a heterosexual male who is that effeminent. Ever.
Who? Which character is effeminate? Except Irvine! And the female characters.

If the game was good, yes.

Unfortunately, the first game with an openly gay lead probably won't be much good, it'll be a terrible game with stereotypical self perpetuating hype monster glued to the front cover.

Unless it's the sterotypical gay guy that runs around and screams in a high pitched voice, the why not?

All that matters to me is it the game play and story are good, and if the characters are well-rounded and developed.

The assumption of heterosexuality isn't some veiled discrimination.
Just because it's not intended discrimination doesn't mean it isn't accidental discrimination. Honestly, it really sucks when homosexuals are assumed to be straight (especially by homophobes). Talk about awkward.
Then that's not discrimination. That's an awkward mistake. Unless told or figured out, I assume everyone is straight, because the majority of people are. That's not discrimination, that's just assuming the norm.

I would love to know what the gameplay contained that made the characters sexuality an issue. As someone who is straight and usually skips all the cut scenes anyway I would not give two shiny shits about whether the character was gay or not. I'm still waiting for a game where I get to play as a massive insect that destroys earth. I also wouldn't mind if the insect was gay. So long as it could spit acid.

It wouldn't matter to me, all I want is solid gameplay. If they made the character fit well into the the story, I'd see no problem with it either.
