Like hell I'm not going to stop it. If I know for a fact he's going to commit suicide, I'll beat him within an inch of his life and tie him up if that's what it takes to stop him. I can do that. I'm good with knots.
Just delaying the inevitable. Can't keep them tied up forever after all. Biological needs and all that. Plus, you've gotta sleep sometime. Even if you get them involuntarily committed, as soon as they can get out, they're doing it.
The suicide in this scenario is going to happen, the person is tired of being alive, nothing can change that, and any intervention is going to fail. Physical intervention buys you however long it takes for them to convince you they're over it, or you have to release them. Legal or medical intervention lasts until they can bullshit their way out, then death happens. Just thought I'd clarify.

Are you okay? This is a really specific question, so I'm a little concerned.

As for me, I think that saying goodbye would be better. It feels more honest, somehow...

I honestly can't think of any reason why I wouldn't say the last goodbye. To protect my feelings? I care for my friends and the idea that one of them would take their lives would hit me like a truck, regardless of when I would find out. To absolve myself of responsibility? Here is the thing, I am not the one pulling the trigger. I am not the one forcing him to do this and hell, even in that final conversation I would use the last goodbye to try and talk him down. I would still try to be there for them. I would use this chance to find out why they did this and try to help them, no matter what. Even if there was absolutely no chance to save them, I would still try.

as someone who has lost a friend to suicide and found out while i was at a party i would have preferred a final goodbye knowing that the last thing i said to him was "see'ya later" its the kind of thing that it doesn't matter how your told you cant feel worse.

Isn't the question more "Would they even trust you enough to tell you?". Personally I wouldn't tell anyone unless I trusted them 100% not to try and stop me, respecting my own choice more than their own selfish desires of not losing an important friend.

Even so. I maintain what I said. I would do everything in my power to prevent it, even if it was bound to fail. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't.

Dude... Why the hell would I want to wait afterwards? I would much rather talk to them one last time about something completely irrelevant to the situation... like porn or ponies... or pony porn...

At least we would have a good ass laugh in the process...

I'm just going to say after and keep my reasons to myself. Easier, lets me weigh in and not say many things that will cop flak.

Fuck yeah, I'd talk to them; this is one of my friends who is in a suicidal state. Just imagine the arguments you could win!

"whatever,Berty, professional wrestling is real and a cage match between Goldberg and the loch ness monster would be the greatest spectacle of all time. Fine. Now will you listen to me for a goddamned minute!?"

As a serious point though, no. They would be locked into a very private act and it would be wrong to get involved.

Find out after, or not at all. I have no interest in talking to someone who would rather be dead than remain in the world with me, sounds like a shitty conversation.
