Fertility is something you take for granted until you lose it. I can't have kids, and though I never wanted one really, it sucks to know I won't have a choice, unless I spend oodles of money on treatments. Also, I don't want to live forever, so perhaps it's good I can't ever make this trade.
However if you got the trade to give up fertility for unlimited wealth (given the person didn't know of your condition) I take it you would smirk and do the trade, right?

To all those that believe immortality would be wonderful: the human brain has a finite number of space. Even about 60 years worth of memories is pushing it. Now imagine trying to remember 10,000 years worth of life. Your brain may not physically age, but you'll still be as forgetful and clueless as most 80 year olds as it becomes jammed full of centuries worth of memories. Not to mention, the human language changes constantly. It may seem little now, (how often do you hear young kids (10,11) talking and go "huh?"), but these changes add up until essentially it sounds like you're speaking ye olde english (and that english is from a mere 300 years ago). You may be alive, but you'll be completely alone as each passing decade separates you further and further from anyone else. Unable to communicate, too forgetful to remember any new lessons, forced to watch anyone who loves you regardless dies, your infinite life is going to be pretty bereft of anything that resembles life.

PS: the funniest thing is definitely the majority going "be immortal, adopt someone else's kids."

In a stone cold second.

Bad for humanity (go watch Child(ren?) of Earth for what happens when society stops reproducing), good for me.
Was that Torchwood? Or am I thinking of something else?
OT: Fuck no! Not nessecarily because I want kids (which I do), but mostly because I would go mad if was immortal.

I not only would take it up in a heartbeat, I'd refuse immortality if I had to have a kid to get it.

I'm so pleased to see this attitude, maybe our generations will be the ones who slow down the population growth, although, I fear the Jerry Springer audiences will keep us well stocked in hordes of wailing children with no clue who daddy was.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti pointless sex for it's own sake, but keep a hat on it, so there's less in the way of consequences crawling around in 9 months :D

Also, there's adoption folks, if you really want to care and love a child of your own, and contribute to society, get in there, you can still have sex eight times a day and adopt :)

Without thinking twice.
I never really wanted children in the first place, and if i changed my mind some day, i could always adopt someone who actually needed a home, instead of creating someone.

I've actually been contemplating getting a vasectomy, just to be on the safe side. I can't see a possible futire, where me somehow knocking a girl up would lead to anything good, and it would ruin my plans and my life.
In the end, if i somehow changed my mind i'd much rather help a child in need, than spawn one of my own. Theres enough people ont his planet already.

I don't really see any downside of immortallity, if it gets bad, i can always choose to end it anyways.
Does it grant you a better health?

As long as I don't mentally age either (like become some bitter old man with the body of a young man).
Aren't bitter old men are bitter because they no longer have the body they had when they were young men?

I wouldn't mind aging mentally, as long as i didn't become senile or something like that.

Let's put it like this: If I was to gain immortality, I would prefer to be infertile.

The idea of outliving my great-grandchildren is kinda depressing.

Wow...I'm not sure.

I want to say yes, but I'm afraid I'd regret it.

Would I not menstruate? Would it be like a type of Immortality for Menopause?

I'd be pissed if I was immortal and still get my period.

Why are you presenting this as if it's a difficult question?

This isn't a question that requires some deep personal search within oneself, like Kirk or Picard; would you rather live to see the end of the cosmos, or wipe shit off an infant's ass?
This guy said it best. We don't need anymore people in the world. This is a retarded question, especially since you can still die from normal injuries. When vampires or whatever complain about being able to live forever, I can see how it might be a burden but this way if I got sick of things I could just off myself. That would be totally awesome, I could live to see all these great advancements in technology and society and if shit went bad I could just quit.

Seeing as i'm one of those "forever alone" guys, this has got to be easiest dilmena ever, hand over that immortality plz, so that I may yet live to see our race become spaceborne (if we live that long).

Seems to me menopause is implied when ya go immortal and lose the ability to have kids, after all menstruation would be kinda pointless. Worst case scenario though, you'll have to bear with them for 50 odd years then it will go away naturally same as for mortals.

Yes, I can adopt and I can die if I want. (does my body age, if it does past a certain point then no)
