Would you rather games took longer in development so that when they are released, they have no bugs, or were released quicker but at the risk of having bugs?

Remember, we could be talking an extra couple of months, or even a year or so, but the finished result would be full of features that were tested extensively to remove all errors.

At the moment I have 2 games I'm absolutely gagging for, literally.

Mass Effect 3, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. I can barely sustain my excitement for these games, and a part of me would negate everything I'm saying here and get it immediately if I could..

However,

I THINK I have just enough patience and respect for BioWare (or any developer in this case) for them to release the game when it is finished, and I mean properly finished. Not like KotOR 2. As few bugs as possible, as steamlined as they can make the game.

And I have incredibly high hopes that BioWare will pull through with both ME3 and TOR. I don't care if they don't release in May as suspected, I can wait til winter, or Q1 of 2012 for (imo, and hopefully) these perfect games :)

EDIT- I agree though, I'm not a perfectionist (if such a thing can ever exist in this industry), I have no qualms what-so-ever with bugs, as long as they are not gamebreaking. That's why I enjoy Fallout so much, the minor bugs actually make me laugh more than annoy me.
However, by waiting longer, I expect things such as story/characters/gameplay etc to be refined.

Depends how long the delay would be and how bad the bugs are.

I'm not so childish that I throw a tantrum over the occasional crash or clipping issue.

I'd rather wait, but unless they're completely game breaking and unfixable, I don't usually mind bugs.

After playing through Fallout New Vegas on the ps3 I can say with 100% certainty that I would much rather wait. I was really looking forward to that game and I would've really liked it if it had worked. But after having to turn off my frozen ps3 for the millionth time, I really started to hate it.
I can handle the occasional bug or glitch (hell, Fallout 3 is my favorite from this gen) and I expect a few in a big open world game. But with downloadable patches on the consoles this gen, publishers have released some things that they should be ashamed of... like Fallout New Vegas.

There is no such thing as a perfect game.

In regards to the question, yeah i would rather wait for there to be no bugs, also am i the only one who got no bugs in Fallout NV? (except the scorpions being in the ground but that was just funny)

Nah Id take out a third option, Id rather devs let heaps of people in on a game months before development finishes so we can know how the game is turning out. I mean god almighty there are soooo many piece of shit games out there that devs wasted years on.

Its like in art school when the teacher says you are doing it wrong an hour into a project. (In a technical sense) its better to have your Idea smashed and start from scratch than find out you screwed up at the begging and all your paint falls off because it doesn't stick to what you are painting on.

Take Alpha Protocol that game got delayed to be fixed, and all they fixed was a bad game that no one played and now they have to cry about it because a failed game kills devs.

Yeah, I know, it's just a hypothetical situation. I'd like to see developer's take more time on this kind of thing in the future though. The fewer bugs there are, the better press the game gets, the better it sells. Everyone wins.

I already wait for games. Dragon Age III won't just appear, will it? So yea, a bit longer's not going to hurt.

As someone who is currently playing Shogun 2: Total war, I can give a resounding: YES TAKE LONGER TO FIX THE BLOODY BUGS.

It seems almost impossible for developers to release a fully playable game at the moment, perhaps it'll take legal intervention to give them all a wake up call. How/when this could happen, no idea.

Seeing as how I've nothing but time, I guess my options are fairly limited in the matter. From my point of view, however, it's not "Would I wait" but rather "Will one be made during my lifetime" kinda question. Chrono Trigger was the closest for me, so take of that what you will. IMO, based on the current trends that games seem to be focusing more towards sensationalism than substance, I'd say that the possibility of such an occurance is dismal, at best.
