me and a couple friends are planning on doing a marathon play-through of our fav. franchises in video games. we are starting off with the zelda/link games from nes up

do you think people would watch a live stream of the event?
what would you like to see?
what would you need to be interested?

I honestly never understood why people would want to watch other people play games, baring competition. Even speed runs are, for the most part, boring as sin, to be confined to youtube.

But, if you really want to do such things...

Super Mario 3
Metroids (Assorted)

I'm just one guy, but here's what I look for when I watch Let's Plays:

Are you funny/entertaining? Are you and your friends going to be giving commentary about the game or something for additional entertainment value? Most people aren't going to want to just watch some people play video games without something else going on. Good example of this is Shamus Young from this site. He has a Let's Play series on his blog that ranges from hilarious to insightful to vitriolic. It is very entertaining.

Are you doing it for something or is it just for fun? Now it seems like this isn't the case, but still. There are several groups that do game marathons for charity. For example, LoadingReadyRun, also from this site, does the Desert Bus for Hope every year. Bad example for a game, but they do a lot of other stuff along with it. There are other groups that do stuff like that.

In fact, here's a group doing something like that now:

Not the best time for example as I am posting but you can see they have a couple cameras set up, a chat stream and are doing stuff based on the comments from the chat.

A third reason which doesn't apply to this is if I am stuck on a game and want to see someone do it.

Vaguely relevant input:

Katrina Sluis made a video installation of her games cultures students playing Unreal for her MA Fine Art Degree show

just their faces, reactions and comments. Kind of interesting in an artsy kind of way.

thanks for the input.

we are going to play through the games, because we want the old feel of games again. we are seeing if the old games are as good as we think they are, or if we are just looking through rose colored glasses. we are looking for the things that have been missed and forgotten over the years, and seeing how these games have evolved.

thus idea comes from the fact that we are going to be doing it anyways, and i am looking to see if others want to come alone for the ride
