If you had the chance of being a trader / broker / banker on Wall Street or in London, would you?

The good:

The money is excellent, £70,000 / year to start with, £100,000+ in quarterly bonuses after you've climbed up for a few years.

The money is really excellent, £millions.

The feeling of being smarter and more successful than everyone else in the room.

The bad:

You have to work 10+ hours a day, 7 days a week, for a few years in the beginning.

Yo have to work very hard.

You can very easily become unemployed, sometimes through no fault of your own. All investment banks lay off 5 to 20 % of their staff a year, and that was last year...

The ugly:

You are messing with other people's savings and pensions, just look at the subprime mortgage thing currently going.

I probably wouldn't mind working there for a few years or so, but I don't think I'm made for doing it for the rest of my life. Personal preference, really.

It cannot be any worse than becoming a lawyer. The hardest part is the first three years and finding someone, ANYONE, who will hire you when you have no previous experience. I feel like I should just throw out my resume and ask them what their hobbies are when I do a damn interview.

I doubt it's worth it in the end though, just based off this guy's resignation letter. Check it out:

Bonus: he ends it by arguing for the legalization of pot.

I've actually wanted to be a trader/broker/banker since I was 16. I know there's risk in it but that's actually what intrigues me the most. The thrill, the excitement. Man, I just can't wait to get there.

Never. I swear that a man will call out a bid and a pack of wild investors will swarm upon him, leaving only a lone shoe behind. The man will never be seen again.
