Which RPGs do you prefer WRPGs or JRPGs. personally I like WRPGs, I could never get into any JRPGs I played. And please No flaming or debates of which is better.

Edit: for some reason the last option isn't showing up. It is "I don't like RPGs."

WRPG's, The japanese are falling behind. Mass effect 1, Fable 1 and oblivion are probably my fav games of all time, well, behind Psychonaughts of course.

Is this when I should shake my head and go "nut nut nut, VS threads are not good"? I don't know, I don't like to be a party break.

I like Both, but WRPGs more because most follow the mythology that I love and know while JRPGs can do all kinds of weird stuff =3.

This is going to turn into a debate clustersuck about which is "objectively" better and then spiral into a semantics debate about what defines an RPG, just you watch.

I prefer the original:

The resource gathering was way more entertaining.

Also, sorry about the music... assuming you're not a fan of country rock.

Dub-ya Arpey Jeeze here. JRPGs just rarely use structure I enjoy. I don't automatically hate a game for being a JRPG but the rate at which I dislike JRPGs is directly reverse of the rate I enjoy the WRPGs I play. That is to say I have about an 80% chance of liking a WRPGs, and vice versa.

I like both equally. Seriously, I like both about the same.

You might as well replace "RPG" with "food". Choose either Western (familiar, satisfying, yet bland) or Japanese (colorful, surprising, but strange). At least, from a westerner's perspective, this seems to be the case for games as well.
Listen to this person, they seem to know what they're talking about and is very good with metaphors.

They all always end up like that, this is one of those hot button topics in geek culture that make skin crawl and best of friends attempt to murder one another in an all out desperate desire to be the one that's right. It's why I said what I said before; it's only a matter of time...

JRPGs, mainly cause they carry more with them and are much more established. And you can always find a new and interesting. Case in point Catherine, which if japan doesnt release to the world cause of that bastard law they put into effect, shit is going down.

Thanks for the welcome, and don't worry I'm not interesting enough to disrespect the rules.

And actually I did write a little essay-thingy on this subject but I think it calls for a sequel [http://www.thatonerantinggeek.blogspot.com/2010/07/geek-rant-topic-06-jrpgs.html]

I prefer Jrpgs because most of them have a goal in mind. In most of the JRPGs I've played, the ultimate goal is to kill god. The story lines also go somewhere.

Western RPGs used to have innovation in them, but they stagnated after Knights of the Old Republic. Every popular western rpg after KoTOR does not just copy it. They are carbon copies of that game. How many games have you being casted as the mysterious hero that people do not trust but find necessary? How many games are out there with a patient main story line that will wait until you are damn good and ready to continue it? How many games have conclusions where nothing gets resolved?

And saying that you've played Final Fantasy VII means nothing in this debate because the medium has done different things in the last 15 years.
