This is NOT a versus thread, so stop complaining.

Recently, my Xbox got the Red Ring of Death. Oh no. :[
So, for Christmas, these are my options: A (used) Xbox, and xbox Live, or a (new) Playstation 3.
On one side, the Xbox, XBL, and wireless adapter would cost ~$300, used, is my estimate. All of my data and games are for the Xbox, so I want to keep that, and most of my friends have an xbox.

On the other hand, the PS3 has free online play, a Blu-Ray player, internet... blahblahblah all that stuff. And new, the PS3 is ~$300, right? But I would also have to buy more games for the PS3...
So, what do you guys think I should get?
And please be fair to both sides, not just a biased opinion.

Oh, and then I shall venture forth and buy Modern Warfare 2 for whichever system I get.

EDIT: Alright, MS will repair my Xbox free of charge.
New question, I suppose: Xbox Live or Playstation 3...? Online play wise, not comparing prices.

Is your Xbox out of warranty or something?

Because if it isn't, send it off to get repaired, free of charge.

If its out of warranty, it'll still be cheaper than buying a whole new console.

I actually have all 3 consoles but at the moment I am loving the PS3 more. Don't get me wrong I love the 360 its controller and game base but I have a crappy internet connection and I seem to have more luck playing online with the PS3 than the 360. I got MW1 for the 360 and only played multiplayer once due to lag issues however since I got MW2 for the PS3 I haven't had any problems. This will not stop me getting single player games for the 360 but from now on I am getting all my muliplayer games for the PS3...

It all depends on your internet connection and interests. X-box live is quite good but I enjoy the PS network a little bit more. After all I can play with 59 other people on Resistance 2 without a hitch but I lag out of every Halo game on ODST that I have ever tried.

It is just personal preference combined with which systems exclusives you like better.

This is always a tough question. Nobody can deny that having free online play and a blu-ray player in a console are big pluses, but I dunno, I think the 360s got some great exclusives, and it's sold more, so the community is bigger.

Xbox 360, if you're looking for online play and exclusives. I rarely use my PS3 for anything other than LBP and playing DVDs these days.

A bigger community also increases the amount of assholes. And as far as I've seen (with a few exceptions of course), the PS3 has a fairly okay userbase.

Unfortunately, it is out of warranty. I think sending it away is not an option, for I am a very impatient person. ]x

Maybe so, but you are never struggling to find games on the PS3 online so that really isn't a comparison, unless you are arguing that more of your friends might have a 360, in which case you are probably right.

Why not? If anything it would be better as if you buy a used 360 you run the risk of buying an XBL banned one which is useless to you. Unless of course you buy from a games retailer

I would check and see if your xbox can be fixed under the warrenty. But if not then I would go with what your friends have. If most of them have xbox and are online then I'm sure down the line there will be a game that you and your buds will want to play together. Same goes for PS3 but let's just say they don't have online then I would go with the PS3 if you plan using it for movies, games, and etc.

1 week is too long?
Depends on where you live.
Microsoft is in Washington. And I live on the East Coast ^^

Send it back to Microsoft anyway.

If you're (really) lucky they might repair it free regardless, if not they'll want you to pay, but you get your 360 back working. If they want too much for repairs you can always refuse and just be back where you started with a bricked box.

My vote goes for that or a new console (which is up to you) with an extended warranty. I can't honestly say one is better than the other overall but ffs don't buy a secondhand 360. Between the lack of warranty, legendary reliability and the fact that hundreds of thousands of modded ones are floating about on the second hand market right now it's just not a good idea.

There's more than one repair centre.

And isn't Washington on the east coast too? Because then I don't know where you're going with that...

Well, I suppose you're right.
You need a crash course in Geography... Washington, D.C. is located on the East Coast.
In Maryland.
Washington (The Actual State) Is located on the West Coast, right below Canada.

I agree with the "send it back and see what they say" suggestion. It's knackered anyway, so it's not like you'll be losing anything - except maybe the cost of ringing UPS to have it collected. You don't send the hard drive with it so if you do get a "new" one then you still have all your stuff saved.

Remember that MS extended the warranty for the 3 red lights and the E74 error to 3 years.

Make a decision once you know where you stand - a repair will probably cost less than a pre-owned Xbox anyway.
