Ok, before we get to it, this isnt a flame thread and im not out to argue which console makes your dick bigger.

one of my friends is at university and doing a project on advertising and sales for her media degree, mainly focussing on negative factors of products she decided to do the games industry (becuase it always come under fire), but not being a big gamer, she enlisted my help

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAMg5RMxpbQ

Anyway, she sent me this video asking if its always like this on games and why people bother to buy them if all they get is abuse and racism, I thought it was pretty funny on first watching it, but later realised that it was this kind of thing that made me not renew my gold subscription and later sell my 360

Though it might be funny sometimes, theres far too many cases of people turning away from Live because of this exact shit. Now I know all online games suffer from this aggro problem, but it seems from most of the stories and vids out there that XBL is the worst offender.

Maybe the open world chat to all and unknown players can be a bad idea, even if your not recieving the flak, listening to this stuff is annoying enough, what do people think about it then and does this kind of stuff have negative impacts on sales and subscriptions

If it gets too much I just do party chat or mute the players in question. Sometimes it's pretty hilarious though. Not gonna lie.

I honestly couldn't even understand what they were saying.

I've never found them offensive, and they're usually funny.

I can't believe you would quit Live and sell your X-Box because of that unless you were like a little kid, no offense.

Wasnt whole-heartedly because of the aggro that I got rid of the box, just wanted a change too, but it was near enough one of the main reasons for not renewing Live. Think it was after an hour on GoW2 that the word "*****" lost all meaning and relevance

I rage a lot whilst playing games, but usually about the game, not other people.
I stopped plugging my mic in after a while on Xbox Live because as soon as I said anything I was inundated with "Tip top, tally ho, tea and crumpets on Teusday" or similar from pre-pubescent Americans who thought it was funny.

Naah, I've seen it happen on all three systems. Never been online with my Wii to see if Mario's "nigga ass is a jew *****"*, but I'm gonna guess it's where all the people who don't have anger management issues, or have passed puberty, go.

It's funny on Saints Row 2, as there are plenty of kids trying to act "gangtsa" who are clearly white, twelve years old, and from upper-middle class backgrounds. I mock them openly, and with words they've never even heard of.

*These comments are meant to represent the average preteen American's, and therefore clearly do not represent mine.

This used to happen to me all the time on counter-strike. Its why I never bought a microphone. That and my computer is crap so investing in games for it would have been a horrible decision. You must have the best teammate/enemy player luck ever.

Rage is always funny.

I rage often at the game itself (Borderlands driving...uuurggghh), but raging at other people is silly.

Alright my sides hurt now. That was the funniest stuff I've ever seen on xbox live. This almost makes me want to renew my subscription to live.

Edit:

The level of racism on XBL can be a little scary though... from everyone, not just the whiteys.

Edit 2:

Oops pressed Quote instead of edit...

The game was near perfect, but the driving mechanics made me want to beat myself to death with a shovel.

OT: I'll rage, but I don't do it by making rude comments towards others. Unless it's with my friends, and we're all joking. Otherwise, I'll either stop playing the game, or throw my controller at a wall.

I was thinking of getting a better computer so I can go back to being a pc gamer instead of xbox live. On TeamFortress 2 on the 360 there was a group of friends on the other team who, I admit, were doing well but we did put up a good comeback but ended up losing anyway. As soon as it got to the lobby, one of them said "did you enjoy getting yo ass whooped?" it just made extremely angry the fact people can be like that on XBL, when I win I just say to the others it was a good match since I remember back on the pc when people would always say "gg".

I enjoy talking to the players a lot but the fact you can be raging at someone in your own team is ridiculous.

They have mute buttons for a reason.
The fact people will start arguements at someone who is trying to help the team is just retarded.

People still use game chat on XBL? I thought everyone just used party chat now. At least then I avoid most of the people like the ones you're probably refering to.

The behavior found on Xbox Live is one of the primary reasons why I haven't used my Xbox in a while and have gone back to PC gaming. It's not because of the existence of all the horrible racist vulgar dipshits...it's because the frequency of finding one on Xbox Live far exceeds anything I've ever seen on other platforms (the PC specifically).

From my experience:
PC Games: 1/15th of the time I'll find an asshole.
Xbox Live: 1/2 of the time I'll find an asshole.

I don't think people would sell their Xbox, it's more of the fact that this is why people wouldn't buy an Xbox.

Yeah they felt so dated and imprecise. Getting stuck on rocks got real old real quick.

The Mad Mel was battle completely cheap and unfair...

The raiders kept knocking my car over as soon as I got in the arena. Think I died 5 times on the battle, with 2 different characters.

The auto lock on missile thingy is totally broken too on the cars.
