Good news everyone! Amazon EU has released the pricing information and release date for the new Xbone. Here is the good news and the bad news.

Unfortunately the fact that the price and release date have been (maybe)released is all the good news we get. As for the bad news, yes, the price has been announced but no, you won't like it. According to Amazon.co.uk the release date will be December 31, 2013 and the price is a mere £599.99! I'll allow you a minute to wipe up the coffee you just spit all over your screens before we continue. That's right the new console price is nearly $900! That is more than double the cost of its predecessor.

Some big questions remain when it comes to the Xbone. During the reveal Microsoft didn't seem to answer many of the questions the average gamer has. Has Microsoft has given up on its core audience and are they trying to appeal to the non gamer. Will the non gamer buy a blocky VHS style box that allows you to watch TV on your TV? That question so far is unanswered but it is a bold move for Microsoft to seemingly turn its back on its core audience. So far as gamers, you know the people who buy video game consoles, all we know is that the new Kinect will be constantly tracking our every move, we can't play our old favorites and we can no longer loan games to friends... But wait there is a glimmer of hope for us! The Xbone will have a new Call of Duty and this one has dogs! And wait there's more. The controller now has vibrating triggers which as the rumble pack taught us all those years ago will add much more depth to the gaming experience?

We'll have to wait and see how things develop for this generation of consoles. Sony has so far kept the lid sealed on price but judging by the cost of the PS3 we can't expect the PS4 to be much, if any cheaper than the Xbone. Well at least the PS4 won't need to be always connected, right? Right guys? Is this thing on? Are Microsoft and Sony even listening to us anymore?

Of course this is unconfirmed and we have all seen incorrect listings on online retailers websites before.

This right here is 100% accurate.

It's only know to be released this year so if they advertise November 15th and it's only released in December they could see someone trying to sue them for false advertisement.

The same can be said about the price, it is advertised as higher than you would expect to cover themselves. Similar example would be if they advertised it as $500 and it turned out to be $700 it could lead to lawsuits.

This. They would never dare sell a 900$ console. Especially not after the ps3 launch price debacle.

So? This is a placeholder price, sure, but it's got to be close to what they'll actually be pricing it as. And frankly I wouldn't buy this thing even if it was free.

Why does it have to be close?

Amazon have to charge the cheaper price, so by putting the placeholder at a price that far exceeds the likely price, then they avoid screwing themselves over.

Really, it's common practice.

I don't really plan on getting one at all at this point.. but at that price it's a definite no.

That said, I also don't believe for a second that the estimated price is anywhere near correct. Personally, I'd only maybe be persuaded to buy the One for probably less than $300 at launch assuming that there were no extra costs involved.

I thought they were testing the prices. Put up a placeholder price that's close to what you're planning to sell it for and see what the reaction is. Besides, I don't want to belive that Microsoft is honestly stupid enough to price it at that, and before the Xbone reveal I would've laughed in your face if you had told me that. But now, frankly, I wouldn't be suprised if the were charging upwards of £600.

There are several things I don't like about the Xbox One, but I have no animosity over a placeholder price being set up. I will say if they do choose to charge $900 for the console I'll be pretty amazed, but there are rumors beyond price that are keeping me away at the moment.

I imagine a 100 dollar gap would be too small, so I'd realistically look at being 200-300 cheaper.

Some people are so gullible. You would think with the other ps4 place holder thread, this would be known.

My only wish is that people would get facts before posting, but then again this is the internet.

Personally, I could care less what the price ends up being. The xbone is something I would never buy, even if it was free.

I think they'd be mad if they charged £600 for it. Absolutely bonkers. Although this is Microsoft we're talking about...

Seriously this would be a dumb thing to do. My PC cost less than that and has similar specs (8 core CPU, 8Gb RAM etc.) so if they do end up charging that consoles would lose another advantage they had over PCs. What do consoles have left at this point? They're no longer easier than PCs if you have to install the game to the hard drive, Kinect 2 is coming to PC (if you're balmy enough to want one). *sigh* just drop it Microsoft, there's no way something can be a console AND a PC.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

31st December seems like a place-holder date since it's too late for the Christmas sales season.

Considering the epic fail that was the PS3's launch price, I can't believe Microsoft would be so foolish as to aim for a £600/$900 price point.

As such, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that £599.99 is a place-holder price.

not really Amazon always guess high because of how there pricing policy works they can cut the price down the line but they cant raise it so they always go heavy on the up side. i would take this to mean amazon are expecting it to be 400

Granted that price isn't accurate, but.... for that price you could buy a decent gaming PC.

They'll probably say it at E3, but as many people have said that is a placeholder price. Amazon does it all the time, and if it were true then MS really must have been in lala land during the PS3 launch because Sony even realized that paying $600 for a console was outrageous. Hell my new gaming PC only cost me $753 dollars and it came with a mouse and keyboard. A person who pays $900 just for a console has way to much disposable income.
Plus they always use the placeholder date as December 31st. That's what it currently is for Final Fantasy X HD actually. The only one that didn't use that placeholder date was before the official release dates were announced for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix. I know because I was doing news updates for that game on my channel and imported myself a copy to see what it was like.

I thought they had released the price point at being $500 and $300 (If you buy like three years of Xbox live)? Could be wrong but I could've sworn that was floating around the net.

Honestly, with all the nonsense features that are included in this console, it wouldn't surprise me that the console is going to fetch a high price.

Blu-ray
Live Sports (contracts and all that)
Fantasy Sports
That used game DRM model
higher Xbox live price tag.

And many more.

And that's another thing- Xbox live got even more expensive! So not only are you paying for a potentially expensive console with expensive games, you now have to pay more for your LIVE subscription.
