So it finally happened to me. I'm pretty sure that this thread may have been done before, but I wanted to add a poll to this to see how others dealt w/ the situation.

EDIT: For the record, I just fixed it myself w/ the penny fix. Found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsz0lNJ6JrQ&feature=related

I've had RROD twice (the first time was after 2 years of faithful service thought). The second time I put off getting it repaired.

I am considering other options though since the price for repair (after warranty) is getting closer to the used and MSRP prices.

Well, I want to choose the 'Bought a PS3 selection' however, I had my first 2 RRoD's before the PS3 was released. I bought a PS3 last summer in June, and I've had another 2 RRoD's since... So my selection does have to go to Sent it Microsoft for a free repair.

Thank God for that warentee :S.

Had it once, fixed under warranty.
Had it twice, took it back to the store and demanded my money back (got it too).
Had a 360 for a little under 3 months after launch, I expect things to work.

Bought a PC and haven't looked back.

Do you guys not have the 3-year warranty in the UK?

wouldn't this penny trick break the rules of the warentee? I mean, even if you don't want to pay for the repair ( i think it's like 10 bucks ) this could royally fuck your 360. Obviously since it has RRoD'd on this video this isn't the first time he's done it. There's no such thing as fixing RRoD 'permanently'.

I sent mine in five(!) different times... each time, RROD.

The last time was the LAST time, as I told a Microsoft rep. Sold it on eBay, used the cash to get a PS3.

Not saying one's better than the other - because I missed playing Fable II and that makes me sad - but I'm happy with my decision.

Apparently my console doesn't qualify for the warranty, so it's not a big deal for me to break it. And the repair would've cost me $99. I'm not sure if I would've had to pay shipping on that order either.

microsoft lost too much money through the three year so they reduced it to one year..my elite is proof of this move. instead of trying to improve system performance they seem to have opted for the "lets just make it so we dont pay for it later" routine...and reduced my warranty

I bought five 360's the day they were released. Funny thing was the things were sitting on store shelves in Bay City, Michigan because of some supply problem. I turned over three to friends for a nominal fee (beer) plus the cost of the system, sold on on ebay for a nice profit and kept the fifth for myself. The thing red ringed by Christmas. Did a straight up exchange for another at the purchasing store. It lasted until summer when it red ringed after four days of heavy play. Took it back, got my money. I held onto it for a few months and bought a Wii. After realizing the Wii has not game support just sold it on Craig's list and will either upgrade my PC, buy a netbook, put it towards a new laptop or a PS3. Leaning towards the PS3.

I have had 4 RRoD on me, each one lasted about 6 months and I've sent all of them to Microsoft. I would love to get a PS3 instead but I don't have the money for it.

It seems like there's a major complaint for every console: "the PS3's too expensive," "the Wii is too childlike" and "the 360 breaks a lot." Oh well, I've had my 360 for at least a year and a half now. I expected it to red-ring sooner or later.

OK, to those of you who have had 2+ repairs for RROD, put your consolse somewhere where it can breathe. You are having a heat disipation problem. Stop putting shit on top of it and don't put it in an enclosed entertainment center. Yes they had a hardware problem, but be smart enough to know how you can not exacerbate the problem.

My console lasted almost 3 years, RROD about a month ago, they fixed it for free. Took about 2 weeks. I used that as an excuse to buy an Elite. Sold my repaired console, bought and Elite (love it). Later when Circuit City went out of buisness, I bought a PS3 for 30% off (love it too).

I bought a used one, it RROD'ed on me the first night.

I took it back and exchanged it (after doing some research) for another used one and made sure I got one made after they started including the extra heatsink.

Haven't had any problems since that point.

I'm pretty sure the winner of the last two generations went via that thought, everyone I know who had a PS1 or PS2 had to buy several after breakages, same goes with XBOX this gen... a guy I work with has bought 2 already.

I've not heard a gamecube or dreamcast breaking.
