I personally think that the current console generation has the best elements of every part of the gaming community:
1. the wii's innovation
2. the hardware of the ps3
3. the onlinesupport and the wide array of games for the 360

Nah that's a silly idea. Even if your theory was sound they'd only fuck it up.
Then there's the issue of cost, and the subsequent lack of sales.
Then there's the problem of developing for it, and thus lots of generic stuff would ensue.

We all know that it won't actually happen, so why kill the concept?

I would need to be able to use my original, huge Xbox controller. Then it would be lookin' pretty sweet.

I'm in a bad mood; killing concepts make me happier. A little.

I hated that controller, but I could get used to it, if they put a decent D-pad in it for my Street Fighting purposes. It's the only reason the PS3 controller wins for me.

Wide array of games for the 360? You have yet to see the library of the Wii!
I'm honestly confused here...are you being sarcastic and/or ironic when you say this, or serious? Library of the Wii? Really? Compared to the 360? Really? Really?
I love Nintendo, but please, don't be a wiitard.

Yes, the three consoles all have commendable aspects. I own two of them (PS3 and X360) and have played the third. But if I had my way, games would go all digital download with lower cost next generation, with the consoles packing terabyte-sized hard drives.

Middle-man retailers would die, developers would see more of the money they deserve and we'd have fewer hardware failures. Sony and Microsoft would realize it would be mutually beneficial to combine and spin off their hardware divisions as a separate public company (or perhaps sell it to a private-equity firm) and we'd soon have one console. This isn't as crazy as it sounds, since Microsoft all but has to have a Blu-Ray player in its next console and Sony is not expected to break even on the PS3 this cycle (Wedbush Morgan).

Third-party devs would burgeon, exclusivity would never again be an issue between Microsoft and Sony and fanboy warfare would decrease. Nintendo would operate as a casual alternative to those not interested in hardcore hardware (although it too could instal Blu-Ray since cost could be brought down) and everything would be dandy.

I can only dream.

It sounds good in theory, and the future may very well be a single media center box that you can download games for whatever system you want, play online, and use whatever type of controller your little heart desires. Super Smash Bros XXVII may let you pit Ratchet vs Master Chief vs Sonic vs Mario.
But the reason this is widely considered to be the golden age of console gaming is that competition breeds innovation. PSN wouldn't be as good today if XBOX Live hadn't been there. The Wii wouldn't be the hit it is if Nintendo hadn't got their butts handed to them the last two console generations.
I'm thankful for all the different systems, even the ones I don't own, because it makes the choices out there better for all of us.

*hugs* Fell better?

Anyway, that Xbox controller was my first controller that didn't look like a neon fruit. (somehow, I wound up with brightly colored controllers for my other consoles)
There's something so comforting, so safe about it.
Of course, I never used the D-pad, so I cannot empathise.

Adding "the Wii's innovation" to a standard console still leaves your with most of the weaknesses of a standard console. For example, it's hard to mod console games(*).

I also really wouldn't want a Wii-style motion-sensitive controller in most games I'd play. It's nice for some things but using it everywhere would actually be a step backward in terms of human-computer interface and usability.

One of those vibrating attachments for Rez would be nice.

* - Think about the important role of user-created content in some of the most famous and best selling PC games of all time: all those user-created mods in Oblivion; the powerful map editor in Starcraft and Warcraft 3; user-programmed interface extensions in World of Warcraft; all the new content for Freespace 2, years after its whole genre is pretty much dead; several whole new games built on top of Half-Life by hobbyists. Even the little things, like custom maps in your shooter of choice, go a very long way.

Um...yes, I do. Thanks:)

I guess it's just what you're used to. I never had bright controllers, (though the white PS3 one is pretty darn bright). I can't do fighting games with the sticks. I need my D-pad. Though never on the dreamcast, you get blisters in minutes with that thing :(

Well this super console your trying to create might sound good but it would speed up global warming by about ten fold.

I'd be happy with a 360 in a PS3's hardware, running on Xbox Live.

My Wii is dead to me and I haven't played it in 6 months.

I think he meant wide array of GOOD games.
Define good.

ENTIRELY subjective, what's crap for you might not be to another person and vice versa.
Look at Metacritic. A much, much higher % of bad games exist on the Wii vs. the PS3 or the 360.
