Seems pretty clear to me. Deus Ex. XCOM looks like it's just a shallow Mass Effect knockoff.
The old X-COM? That was the best strategy game ever made, it was the biggest benchmark strategy ever had in the 90s and has still influenced strategies today (hell, Mass Effect took cues from X-COM's gameplay in some areas). Hell, they don't even share the story with Mass Effect or anything.
The new XCOM that the Bioshock guys are trying to push out.

He was talking about the old games. So its a best RPG Vs. Best strategy pack.
Figured that out in the other thread. He actually has the poll going in that one. :p

I tried out Human Revolution at a friends place the other day (the leaked Beta) and from that, I'd say you can't afford to miss that game. It's absolutely mindbogglingly good.

Great level design,
wonderful aesthetics,
tactical combat,
multiple ways to approach every problem,
fun level up powers,
brings up interesting social and political themes,
treats the player like an adult and assumes you are intelligent and have a wide vocabulary, BIONIC SWORD ARMS,
and the controls felt pretty damn smooth to boot.

I've heard nothing but bad about XCOM thus far.

Definitely Deus Ex.

It's practically <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.262850-Reviews-from-the-Backroom-Deus-Ex>perfection on a disc.

LOVE XCOM, the original is such a classic.

I played Invisible War on XBox, always intended to play the first but never got round to it.

I picked it up a few months back, and yes it has aged a lot. The graphics suck and it is amazing how much gameplay has changed. I found the shooting far too frustrating, and I knew I would never finish it.

So I cheated, and I NEVER cheat at games. I'm not proud.

But it did allow me to finish a game that I otherwise never ever would have done. And I'm glad I did, because Deux Ex really does have a fantastic story, some great settings, and wonderful mechanics. I just needed an unfair advantage to compensate for the game's inherent frustration.

The main problems are that as an FPS, the hit detection sucks, and you are seriously underpowered at first, and as a stealth game it is too dependent on luck.

I would say get Deus Ex, unless you know you are a fan of the XCOM genre of strategy. Deus Ex has broader appeal, but if you are into the XCOM genre, there is little better...
