I think that it's fine Atkinson want to protect younger gamers, but that's not his job, it's the parent's job to take care of their kids. Give gamers the games they want and an R18 rating so parents know what to buy for their kids. I'm in the US and my dad refuses to buy me M rated games(I'm 14), which is fine. Atkinson thinks that any kid who gets his hands on a game like that instantly becomes a murderer. No, that's the media glorifying that bull. It's stupid. If a murderer was found to have been playing Grand Theft Auto recently, it's blamed on the game. If he was wearing a red sweater, maybe we should blame sweaters too. Atkinson needs to realize (most) gamers can separate fantasy from the real world.
Personally I think he should do it, but understand he wouldn't have any chance of success. He'd simply be doing it as a gag cantidate and to make a few points, sort of like Dick Clark, Steven Colbert, etc... deciding to run. It would get some attention for video gamers.
I don't know what the Austrlian laws are for such things, but if The Escapist paid the fees and say got him a van to ride around in, they could make a decent show out of it, and probably find a way to recoup their expenses.

If Yahtzee became a politician then who would lead the Australian gaming uprising? Are there more people with cool, or cooler, hats in Australia (preferably the non-corked kind)?

I hate this Atkinson guy as much as the next, but he's only seriously wrong on one front out of many as far as I know. That's why I think it's funny on how people want to put someone up in his place. Yahtzee lives in Queensland, not SA, so he wouldn't be able to run without moving. And I don't see him moving to SA just to run against Michael Atkinson. Besides, he's too angry and too honest to win.

Yes, because it takes no skill or knowledge whatsoever to be a politician, and it's not like there are any other people who are also qualified to be an attorney general and yet do not oppose games. I mean, the idea that an intelligent, mild-mannered, charismatic fourty-something might actually be a gamer is completely insane.
