Ok, so. After getting tired of seeing my overweight self in the mirror everyday, I decided to start the P90x program. My brother bought it, but never used it, so he was glad to pass it my way. I started with a friend, and I am currently on day 4. Yoga...

I've never done Yoga before. I always figured it was for females and sissies. Oh how wrong I was.

The last 3 days of workout have left me sore from head to toe. The kind of sore where you can't get out of bed. Hell, I struggled to get into be.

After contemplating Yoga for a few hours I decided "I'm committed to this program, and I'm going to do it the right way, no matter how stupid it makes me feel.". I put in the DVD, struggle through a few poses, and after about 20 minutes, I have a sudden realization; I can move.

Every ounce of soreness I had was gone! Not only that, but I was sweating! More than through the regular workouts!

An hour and 10 minutes of Yoga later, and I feel great. It was an intense workout that I didn't expect. I have no soreness left in my body, and I have Yoga to thank for that. I got over the fact that I felt like a fool while doing it, and found it to be a calming, yet intense workout.

So, my question is. Do any of you practice Yoga? If so, how did it make you feel? If not, why?

[EDIT] It appears the options in the poll aren't showing up, no matter how many times I enter them. Poll is working now.

I do a little Yoga. I feel great afterwards, like I really worked my body, which is what using your body against itself as a source of resistance will do.

The only workout that makes me feel better than Yoga is swimming.

Tried yoga a couple of times, found it a little....stupid.

As a warmup, sure, gets you limber and active. But as actual excercise - 'meh'.

I actually really want to get into yoga. How would someone recommend starting? The P90x thing seems tempting, but maybe too intense for my lazy ass right now.

Just sign up for a class at the Y, that's what I did.

I'm hoping those will be the side effects of Yoga in my workout...

A little, but I'm more of an insight meditation person. Comes in handy when doing yoga or pretty much anything else that requires selective focusing.

I never tried it. I don't think I can bend like that anymore anyway.
That's one of the things I was worried about. The trainer in the program I'm doing said that if you can't reach the ground, grab your ankles. If you can't bent all the way, don't force it. You'll get there eventually.

Oh come on yoga is just fancy flexing to me.Just exercise.
I used to think the same thing. However, Yoga actually improves strength, flexibility, breathing habits, it can help your heart, it helps your digestive system, improves your balance, and improves your posture.

It does much more than I thought. I used to think it was just fancy stretching and flexing.

I'm definitely signing up for it next year, when I get back to uni, purely on the strength of my going out with a girl who did yoga every day. Amazing.

Also, I've been meditating for a few years now; hopefully the breathing control ought to work.

It's for sissies. You wouldn't find Saxton Hale doing Yoga so you wont find me doing it.

Those that say yoga is for sissies have not done it themselves. A lot of the poses are hell.

I've done it once, but it wasn't relaxing like people say. Not a fan of it, but since doing it I have a newfound respect for yoga.

I was in a Yoga class at school last semester. It was great. It's the kind of class were you can safely not do shit and still pass but if you do follow the instructions and do what your supposed to do the way it's supposed to be done it is one hell of a exercise. I was doing some boxing around the same time and it really helped with the balance, my poor shoulders and abdominal area.

I plan on taking the same combination next fall again.
