I would keep it regardless of the amount. If it was a wallet, I would take the money and toss the wallet.

I don't really like being such a greedy person, but being noble and honest only works when everyone else follows the same rules. Knowing that every other person is in the world is a greedy bastard, I know I need to act the same if I want to survive.

Once I found £60 on the street. Of course I'm not going to hand it in to the police (how are they supposed to reclaim it? "Excuse me, I lost some money." "Okay, what did it look like?" "Well... it had the Queen on it...")

But I did stick a piece of paper on the wall with my email address saying if someone had lost 'something' here they could claim it back, and added a disclaimer that if they didn't get in contact with me in two weeks I'd 'get rid' of it.

No one contacted me and I was £60 up with a clear conscious.

This reminds me of when I was in High School and a student lost $500 somewhere in the school.
But some beautiful bastard had found the money and given it to the teachers so she was able to get them back.
That was one lucky girl I tell ya.

As for me keeping 40 bucks I find on the side of the road? I'm not really sure, I think it could go either way really.
If it was a wallet I'd definitely turn it.

Anyone that carries such an obscene amount of money with them, let alone AS A FUCKING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, deserves to have it lost.

same as pretty much everyone. if it was just money, i'd keep it. if it's a wallet, i'd return it. the amount is irrelevant in either case.

If I found it in the street, I'd probably take it.
The last time I found money, though, was in a bakery. I gave it to the lady behind cashier.

If it was more I'd totally take it in to the police because I don't know why someone left that load of cash behind and I would want to drop it off and not be associated with it anymore.

I'm a thief. I don't have moral convictions about stealing. And if something is just left laying around, I'll take it without a damn thought.
If it was a wallet, I'd empty it of cash and hand it in because that's absolutely horrid to lose and have to fuck around replacing, but the dollars are mine. Finder's fee.
