Sell it on eBay because it's a frickin' magical floating box.

I am disappointed in the lack of mad science dramatic switch-throwings à la Frankenstein.

I mean I'd mess with all three eventually, but the first thing I would do is...
Throw the switch!

Pres Butan.

Ackshully... er... Actually, I'd probably try hitting the thing with a bat or something, I mean, how would it react? Would it's altitude adjust? Would it then return to it's previous height, or would it levitate at it's new height. Would it slow down under friction or just keep going until it hits something else? Levitating stuff is so weird I'd probably be too overwhelmed by the fact it's levitating to notice it's even got switches and whatnot.

The button and the switch all have binary results...so pressing them is hugh risk.
However the knob might have multiple settings...so if something bad happens, it might be a smaller amount of bad.

My first reaction to the thread title was:

"Open that sucka up!"

But since that isn't a poll option I'm going to have to go with the button press. Seriously, who can resist a button? Even a doomsday button?

buttons and switches are always bad news. I'll turn the knob. perhaps it opens?
if nothing happens, I'll do the switch too. and finally the button

Do an intensive study on how the box is floating, call the scientists and leave the switch, knob and the button alone.

Does it have a question mark on it? If so I hit it with my head!

If not, eh, guess I would let someone else tinker with it first. If it blows up, at least I'll be able to enjoy the fireworks. If not I'll still witness whatever awesomeness resides in that mysterious box.

Got ninja'd with the Dee Dee video, so here's Ren and Stimpy:

Though I'd probably let curiosity get the better of me. That, or whack it from below to see if coins come out, maybe a fire flower if I'm lucky.

The button, it's shiny.

PRESS IT! YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO!
Not another Evil button spammer! I listened to the warnings so I know the consequences of such a button! You'll never get me with it! *Chalks up another day of escaping the button since it was created*

OT:
Turn the Knob.
*turns it.* Hee Hee Hee.

Since the option to use all three of the controls was not available, pressing the Big Red Button was the most appealing option.

You find a mysterious box floating on its own for no apparent reason, it has a switch, a knob and a button. What do you do?
This depends entirely on the specifics of the object: What kind of switch is it? a lightswitch? a flick toggle? a large toggle, like in mystery men/frankenstein?
What are the proportions of the knob? is the diameter the size of my palm, or smaller? is the edge smooth, or ridged?
Is the button a rubbery bulb? a low, concave button like on an arcade cabinet? a computer key? what?

The answer to those questions will drastically affect my own answer

CAPTCHA: I'm sorry

finally im getting an apology for this bullshit

You are so going to hell for that.

I would carefully analyze the box first, in the form of pulling the lever (surely it can be pushed up again, right?).

There is no "Other" but I shall stick to the tried and true method that has worked for my D&D character, When confronted with a strange macguffin hit it with your axe.
