I think I'd join the Brotherhood of Steel. Even if they'd probably send me out on hazardous missions, to be inside a suit of Power Armour is pretty much the safest place to be in such a hostile world. Besides, the Brotherhood's resources practically guarantees the arguably best standard of living the wasteland has to offer.

That's easy, I'd get my gun, my ammo, and my backpack. Fill the backpack with whatever supplies i have (food, water, ammo, etc) and find the nearest town. Then i'd see about starting or going a mercenary group. Gotta make a living somehow. Since Engineering is pretty much useless, i have only my marksmanship and tactical skills to fall back on.

Engineering? the knowelge dosn't sound useless You could find work with the brotherhood or the enclave

I'd make the conscious decision to survive. As in, if I can find a job working in the Megaton bar for a few months to get enough scratch to get my hands on a gun and ammo, or have to steal or worse in order to reach that same ends, well that's just how the cookie crumbles. Roll with the punches and see how long I can make it.
That's probably the only real possibility anyhow, as some player's of Fallout 3 might have discovered, certain Vault Dwellers end up quite dead due to their goals... Note to self, stay away from Enclave soldiers, they don't like to chat.

Screw those pretentious assholes. The BoS just wants tech and the Enclave are freaking crazy. I won't work for some genocidal autocracy or a tech-worshiping cult. I'd much rather just work for myself. As a merc. Maybe i can be the guy who makes new guns.

But if is Fallout1/2/New Vegas, i'd so join the NCR. They are some cool motherfraggers.

What? which game were you playing? no its the outcasts that are obessed with tech over humanity (I hate those assholes), the brotherhood are there risking thier lives for the people of the wastland and preserving humanity, and preserving tech is actually important too

If I were to wake up tomorrow somewhere in the Capital Wasteland, I would probably make my way to Megaton or Rivet City and settle there. Make myself useful with my talents with computers and hunting to pay my way. The only problem is that I probably wouldn't live long enough to get there.

Edit: I might, after I adjust to life in the Wasteland, join the Brotherhood of Steel at some point. I definitely like what they do, but I'm a lazy fuck so I can't say whether or not I would actually end up there.

I'm playing Fallouts 1, 2, and 3. The Fallout 1/2 BoS are the Outcasts from FO3. The FO3 BoS are lame. So they have power armor and some big guns. They also fight the most dangerous bastards around, the Super Mutants. I like not being torn apart.

And FO1/2 are better than FO3 in terms of plot and factions. Nothing beats the New California Republic. Not the BoS. Not the Enclave. Hell, the NCR have Super Mutants fighting for them! The West Coast, non-crazy ones. NCR, FTW!

I'd go make myself useful in Megaton for awhile, learn the ropes (if in fact I were just dumped there after basically being as sheltered as a vault dweller), hope to get to know the area and survive before it got the better of me.

Do we get a Pip-Boy? Because otherwise, knowing me I'd probably wander through a hot zone and turn into a ghoul.

Depends on my current equipment.

If I had a gun, I would find a high hill or mountain and look around for a settlement to hide in. If I [i/]didn't[/i] have one, but I had my pocket knife, I would look for a raider or waster, follow them until they went to sleep, slit their throat in the night and take their gun.
