I'd use it to become filthy rich.

But on the anime. Ryuk simply made it clear there is no such thing as heaven or hell, there is simply nothing after death.

...I'm the only person so far that said he'd destroy it. I have no use for a death note at the moment.
I'm pretty sure I would like heaven so bye bye book.

i would go with the Light approach, and i have a feeling i wouldn't get caught because, no ones gonna believe that someone is killing people with a notebook simply no one would look into it as murder, they would probably look into it as some health problem or something.

I'd destroy it without using it because I'm a fan of the series and one of the rules clearly states "The human who uses this note can neither go to Heaven nor Hell" (cited from my prop copy of a death note.

Even if I didn't know it it to be true that it just too much of a risk to take. I also can't risk it falling into the hands of others, if I gave it to someone it could come back to hurt me or someone I loved.

So destroying it would be the most pragmatic thing to do.

If I'm completely honest I would say I would never use it, then try it out, then throw it away out of horror, then gat it back and become exactly like Light.

"The human who uses the notebook can neither go to Heaven nor Hell."

Sorry, I ain't spending my afterlife in some purgatory. Or worse, the Shinigami world.

In no particular order, goodbye to:

1) My history teacher

2) The Westboro Baptist Church

3) Whoever designed this abomination [http://serebii.net/pokedex-bw/594.shtml]

4) Various assorted douchebags I attend school with

5) F. Scott Fitzgerald. Yes, I'm aware he's already dead. I don't care. He knows what he did.

I noticed that a few people would test it then toss it. If I remember correctly if you use it even once you won't go to heaven or hell, so you might as well keep using it.

OT: I would use it for sure, got a few people in mind right now. It's the ultimate weapon and since whatever you write happens, you can get away with ever single murder by making it seem natural or blame others (2 birds with one stone). =)

Kill it with fire. Not a single scrap must remain. Damnation aside, you simply can't predict what the effect of deaths will be nor that your information about your targets is accurate. While careful use might be able to improve the world no sane person should want so big a responsibility, and anyone who did would likely be just the sort of megalomaniac who shouldn't have it. The potential for abuse and tyranny is just too high.

As for whether you would get caught, I suspect you could probably manage it with convincing circumstances and infrequent times of death.

Another possibility would be to control people and have them give out information/resources, e.g. have a dictator give evidence of his contacts or a businessman give his fortune to charity.

Maybe I'm just shying away from the responsibility of making these decisions and wasting a great opportunity to improve the world, but I don't think I would trust myself or anyone else with this power.
