So I've gotten my hands on Dragon Age: Origins recently, and have been randomly tooling around the opening sections to see how the different classes all play out. And I thought I'd look into this with a pointless question to anyone who has played (or still plays) the game.

Which character build do you primarily use. OR, if you don't play the game anymore, which character build did you mostly use?

I personally started out as an Elf Mage, but found that unlike other mage classes in other games, there was something...off, about this one. I just couldn't seem to use it effectively and kept dying a lot because the darkspawn randomly aggrod NOT onto the large man stabbing it, but the small man with a skirt and a wooden stick in the corner of the room.

So I'm now working my way through it as an Elf Rogue. I'm always an Elf. Humans annoy me because they never seem able to looking ANYTHING but sad when you create them, and I just don't like the Tolkein-esque Dwarven thing they got going on in this game. Plus I hate warriors and a stealth Dwarf just seems fucking ludicrous to me.

I've done quite a few playthroughs now, I always seem to play rogue, and I've tried all the races! I prefer to play human or dwarf (females) just because it's easier to make them look pretty. Elves have a weird facial structure!

I've played through all the scenarios to the end, this game was the first in a while to fully grab my attention. I enjoyed all of them but find myself going back and playing as a city elf(rogue). I love the ability to lock pick and hate playing through the other origins without having the ability to open all of the chests.
Currently I'm playing as an elf mage, thought I'd play through again whilst I await the march release of the sequel.

Dwarf warrior, and then the backstory in which you are the mob-muscle/enforcer. It's my first playtrough but I really enjoy the way I play it. Almost never die too...

Dwarf Rogue was my favorite. And the 100% completion one, too.

DPS like a ************.

My initial/main playthrough was a Male Elf Mage. My current (second) playthrough is my "asshole" run as a Male Human Noble (Warrior). After that, I think I'll do a Male Human Mage on account of the Amell family connection in DA2. I have also considered a Female Dwarf Commoner (Rogue) and Female City Elf (Rogue), but I'm likely to do a second mage run first. Briefly tried a Human Male Grey Warden (Warrior) in the Awakening campaign, but I stopped it because I went Two-Handed and found the attacks far too sluggish for my liking.

That doesn't mean they aren't extremely amusing to see sneaking around cutting off hurlock heads this way and that :p

My build is a human rogue. I don't care much for the race, but I went with human just because it seemed more appropriate. Elf rogue works too but I didn't like it as much as being a human rogue for some reason.

Human rogue, so by default a human noble storyline. I always go fully into the duel weapons tree and leave archery alone. I usually put effort into being persuasive and cunning, but a good amount also goes to willpower and strength so I can wield some heavier armors and use more abilities at once with the higher stamina. My rogue hardly ever goes sneaky, it's basically a warrior in that I use him to draw aggro, but I am usually very good about making sure he gets into a backstab position on every enemy to take them out as quickly as possible.

I've played em all (although not all the way through) and my favorite one was a human noble warrior, although i had him fight like a rogue so basically he was a rogue with warrior talents and plate armor. Second favorite was an elf mage cause you can do tons of damage. I didn't like rogues because they die to easily. That's what i am in all bioware games though, dual-wielding warrior (sniper in mass effect).

Human mage, though I voted elf because I thought it was asking which you should go.

The warrior class is a poor choice especially since you get four others right off the bat and they're only good as meat shields.

Human mage. Honestly I just cant find a way to tackle the hardest difficulty setting without a mage. And I hate Morrigan. And Wynne.
In Awakening though, lv20+ Warriors are effing awesome. That greatsword ranged attack skill is the coolest skill ever and sadly the 20+ skills for mages are kinda weak in comparison to all the ohko skills that Warriors/Rogues get.
