I don't really know where I got the idea for this, but I was wondering, what's your favorite archetypal ancient civilisation? Do you like Gladiators, Pyramids, Viking Mythology?

If you're allowing Samurai in that list, which isn't all that ancient, I'd like to go for early buddhism =)

Or maybe something polynesian... or african, or mediterranean... everything's awesome

The Incas,and Anasazi because....I do?
The incas had cool cities in the mountains and the Anasazi myseriously dissapeared, leaving large cities.

You can't make a poll out of this, you leave too many out.

(Persians, Hittites, and Assyrians, Israelites, Medians, and Sycthians to name a few)

And it's the Norse or Scandinavians, Vikings are people who are viking.

EDIT: And Incans should not be grouped with Aztecs and Mayans. And you forget the Anasazi.

EDIT: And what about the Mahajanapadas and the Maurya Empire?

Romans were ridiculously amazing, it's hard not to choose them. Though I also would have accepted Israelites, just to represent ma ancient homies.

Greeks for me. So many good philosophers, mathematicians and inventors. Plus they had a cool religious system and some pretty brutal mythologies.

Why is there an option for both Greek and Roman? I'm well versed in Greek mythology, but it was my understanding that Roman is just Greek with different names.
Their religions were essentially the same thing, but they weren't the same civilization. That's probably why they're both up there. Plus, who would vote against a Greece/Rome team?

I had to study both in Ancient History. While both have there differences, they are quite similar. Agghh, bringing back horrible memories of 'What is different between Athenian and Roman Women' assignment. There's next to none!

That's basically it! There were such small things like: One could stay out until 8 and the other 7, or something equally pointless. Spartan women had the most freedom, asides over their childrens fate of course.

Biblical Israel.

There's not enough games based around King David and the Armies of Jerusalem slaughtering countless hundreds of thousands* of other idol-worshippers in 2nd Samuel and 1 Kings.

Does Star Wars count? It was set long ago in a galaxy far far away...

In all seriousness, the Macedons/Macedonians, probably just because of Alexander

Rome. They had indoor plumbing and may have invented a precursor of TP, bathing was common, you had central heating, you could be reasonably certain you wouldn't die in your sleep because your neighbour wanted your stuff*, and you could get some pretty good books and shows cheap.

My second choice would be Babylon, 'cause they invented beer and legal codes, and weren't terribly uptight.

*unless, oddly enough, you hung around the Emperor's court. Then you had to watch yourself... but the guys in the middle class were okay so long as they didn't piss off their staff/slaves.**

** The slave thing is a bit of a downer, but then again all those cultures had something of the kind.

actually the groove ware ppl had both those things, a couple thousand years before Rome

their slaves weren't like the slaves we all think of, they were more lifetime employees who couldn't quit. they actually had quite a lot of rights
