What kind of gaming veiw-rig do you have?
1064x768= Aspect ratio 4:3 (Standard)
1280x800= Aspect ratio 16:9 (Anamorphic Widescreen)

I myself have a LCD screen res'd at 1440x900. (Aspect 16:10) but typically play games at 1024x768 and windowed. I somehow don't care for fullscreen, but I do like w i d e s c r e e n.

Most of my gaming these days is on my 1080i TV set, but when I do game on my computer it's at 1024x768 to limit the excessive fire hazard frame-rate drop.

i do my ps3 gaming on my hdtv and my pc gaming on my lcd which is set at 1280x1024, didn't get a widescreen for my desktop, not big on some of the wide screen stuff, had enough issues with my laptop figured i'd give it a bit more time

edit: tv is 1080p but most ps3 games are only 720p, even if the box claims otherwise yeah i'm looking at you gta iv

I don't know the res of my tv. All I know is that it's a standard non-HD tv. This is really annoying when playing the latest batch of games which all seem to make their HUDs with the assumption that your HDTV can show up their ant-small writing. I'm looking at you Dead Rising.

Yeah, Dead Rising was one of the first games I got for my 360 and the text-size makes it unplayable (for me, anyway). It really pissed me off.

As for PC games, I find 1024x768 to be my favourite. Any higher and a lot of games (older ones anyway) seem to get a little funky.

A HD LCD, running at 1080i (stupid Microsoft not including a HDMI port). On PC, I'll be luck to get 800x600, for Quake 4.

Edit: After a few upgrades (an extra 1GB of RAM and a 7600GT), I'll be fine running old-ish games and can run new games on low-mid.

I'm thinking about getting another monitor. Once you go dualzies, you never go back. I could be running 3DS Max while rendering and be texturing something in Photoshop and playing Sid Meier's Railroads whilst it loads.
ressarektion!!

Things would probably load faster if you weren't rendering, texturing, and playing something all at the same time, but who am I to tell you how to do things?

Anyway, my gaming PC (the one I'm on right now, not that it matters) runs with one of the last great CRTs, a 21" IBM that is capable of resolutions up to 2048 by 1536 (1080 what?). My non-gaming rig (still plenty capable in it's own right) has a 22" Acer widescreen LCD (1680 by 1050). While I run my desktop at 1024 by 768 (1360 by 765 on the Acer), I game at whatever my PC is capable of without excessive fire hazard frame rate drop*. PC Grand Theft Autos can be run at 2048 by 1536 without problem, while heavily modified (but drop-dead gorgeous) Oblivion runs like two-legged greyhound at a windowed 960 by 600. Not that that is stopping me in the least from playing it.

*It needed to be said again.

Rendering is the only thing that takes excessive [http://www.pixar.com/howwedoit/index.html#] time [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendering_%28computer_graphics%29] to load.

When I saw the topic title I was expecting my answer to be something like: "This year I've promised myself to stop grinding in RPG's & just enjoy the game/story".

I have my new PC & 360 connected to a 22inch wide screen LCD monitor, DVI for my computer & VGA for my 360. I run my computer at 1680x1050 & my 360 at 1360x768.

I only got the monitor yesterday, & the PC a week eairlier, so I'm super stonked by the size & image quality, it breaths a new lease of life into games.

Well since my current CRT monitor still works fine, I have no need to change, especially after dump 2000 into a new rig. My monitors highest res is 1280x1024, which is just fine as it looks good and gives optimal FPS for games, anything beyond that and it almost feels like overkill.

1600x1200 usually, although sometimes I have to drop to 1280x1024 or even (gasp!) 1024x768 to avoid slideshows.

FYI, popular PC resolutions include 2560x1600, 2560x1024, 1920x1200, 1680x1050, 1600x1200, 1440x900, 1366x768, 1280x1024, 1280x720, and 1024x768. 800x600, 640x480, 720x350, and 320x240 are older standards not often seen today, although most CRTs will drop to at least 640x480.
