Poll: Your memory...

I have the unfortunate habit of being able to remember a mildly amusing anecdote a friend may have told me a couple of months ago, but then forgetting to pick up my bag and coat or forgetting vital information that I thought I knew, in the middle of a test.

I have an alright memory, I sometimes forget things which are fairly impotant like calendar dates and some names/places but I also rememeber some things incredibly well.

I can remember thousands of useless facts and statistics, quotes from films and tv shows I have only seen once and things my friends once told me years before, but show me something like a maths theory and i'll have forgotten it in ten minutes flat. Although, I can fairly safely say I can remember the controls to games I havent played in years button perfect,even ones I didnt like or play much.

Its probably something to do with interest levels and choice of retaining certain things other others on a personal 'importance' scale.

I have a photographic memory, but also selective memory, so it rememebers unnecessary stuff.

Recalling information, I'm pretty good with that.
Remembering to put a book in my school bag, where I've left my phone, why I went upstairs... not so good.

I have a crazy awsome visual memory! If I take an interest in some e.g. like at a music gig I see a hot girl, I take note and store it in my memory. I see that girl later on in the year at another music gig, I go up and talk to her and I could tell her exaclty what clothes she was wearing on that other night.
People find it creepy, most think it is some sort of cool party trick, but if an image or something interests me I can remember what it looks like fairly well!

but words, oh how i hate them, I cant remember words, names etc at all... I end up giving people discriptive nicknames so i can remember them!
like at uni for example we have corset chick, blonde tight jeans, 13 year old cap boy, felicity hair (if you have seen the show you would understand), guy from rage against the machine, things with jeans guy etc etc etc. I know a few of these peoples names now, but i still think of them as this befor I remember thier names lol.

My long-term memory is pretty good. For example, I remember getting my uncle's Mega Drive (or Genesis in other territories) for Christmas fifteen years ago.

Short-term memory, on the other hand...
I tend to forget why I've gone into another room, why I've stood up, that kind of thing. On occasion, I forget what I'm talking about mid-sent...

Basically, I'm asking what your memory is like. I have to say mine is not particularly brilliant. Ususally, I can't even remember what I had for dinner the night before

I have a fantastic memory. The only problem is since I am so sure my memory is good I trust it to be accurate 100% of the time. Which has lead to a couple embarrassing dead wrong moments.
