Poll: Your most common problem solving method?

This forum is all about seeking answers to problems, and when it comes down to basics, an important issue in life is solved one of two ways: Attacking the issue head on and immediately ("nip it in the bud"), or waiting to see how things develop first and then possibly taking action appropriately (a careful planning approach).
What is your preferred or most commonly employed method?

My preference in problem solving is direct and extreme violence. Once I'm finished it's either a fixed problem or a very, very dead problem.

I guess it would depend on the immediacy of the problem. To elaborate, I ask myself if anyone or anything I know could be irreparably damaged by my inaction. If so, I tend to jump in and see what can be done. If the answer to that question is no, I will almost always take my time and analyze the options.

i normally smash the problem in the face....and if the problem ends up being bigger than that i smash it again...but with a sledge hammer

i dont like waiting around to see what will happen unless it is obviously prudent to do so ex. if you think your engine is running odd you try to diagnose before pulling the whole damn thing out.

but my overall experience is if you let a problem wait around to get solved by someone else, it is that exact thing everyone else is thinking. better to fix things quickly and fix again if necessary than to let something linger and become much worse.

Think about it and see if anything intelligent comes to me. If not break it and start again.

It depends on the size of the problem, and exactly what the problem is. If it's a tiny problem, I deal with it. If it's a big problem, I start taking chunks of it here and there. If it's a huge problem, I nuke it from orbit.

My biggest question is why is this in the advice forum? There isn't anything you came to asking for advice for.
