I hope this particular take on Spore hasn't been posted, but my eyes glazed over after the first few dozen results from Search: Spore.
The question: how has the DRM affected your buy/no buy decision on Spore?
The question isn't "did you buy it?" or "what do you think of the DRM?" but rather the only reaction EA will be interested in and the one we should look at too: has this affected sales? If so, how? Obviously we won't get an answer, but it's nice to chit-chat.

Er, no, it's nothing like a Civ game at all, maybe Galactic Civilisations in the Space Phase, but otherwise the whole game is real-time. However, each of the stages could have used a little more work, there just isn't enough things to do. It kind of picks up a bit in the Civ and Space stages, actually a little too much in the Space stage, not that it's difficult, just tedious going from planet to planet and system to system, you almost feel like you -need- the Shaman special warp home ability, and that is a damn good timesaver let me tell you.

As for the DRM, yeah, it sucks, but what can be done about it?

xD

you prob would have done better reffering it to Sims or Sim city, at least they were made by the same people.

but seriously, Spore is like no other game, its unique. So buy it!

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is very unique as well, and I would suggest buying it.

Not going to buy it. I refuse to buy a game that contains what I see as a legalised virus and limits my ability to actually use it.

Or to put it another way, if Trek tried to launch a bike that could only be set up three times, couldn't be sold second hand and counted every component change as a set up. I'd stop selling Treks.

I bought the game anyway. I figure I'll install it once on this computer and install it once more on a new one that I'm planning on making soon, which leaves one more install for safety in the event that my hard drive explodes from the massive amount of stars in the game or something...

I never had any intention of buying it, as the idea of the different stages and the supposed epicness always seemed like a clusterfuck to me. However, if I were interested in it, DRM would be a deal breaker. I can sympathise with the developers, but I'm not gonna fucking suffer for them.

Yes indeed, where is that option. However, if I would have been interested about Spore, I wouldn't buy the game thanks to DRM.

Bioshock has the same online activation system, only few installs before you would have to buy the game again. Left Bioshock in the game store and I will do the same to every game that uses that kind of system.

I bought it. It is ok. My computer still works, so does the game.

Overall; care about the DRM stuff? As somebody who does pirate games I suppose it's (kind of) my own fault this kind of system has come to pass anyway. But I bought this, because I wanted to, because I thought it looked great, had it on pre-order since my birthday last December. That is nearly a year ago. Don't regret the purchase, couldn't care less what copy protection is involved because, amazingly, it doesn't affect me in the least. So far the game hasn't tried to rape me in my sleep, it's comfy.

Madness, I know. Honestly, I just can't seem to care as much as all the people going absolutely batshit mental about the DRM - who probably didn't intend to buy the game anyway.

Refuse to buy the game and let it tank in sales to drive home the message that people who spend their money on things don't enjoy being treated like effing criminals?

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a single copy-protection scheme that has successfully managed to do anything besides annoy legitimate users.
