*Search bar brought nothing, surprised me*

How many of you are actually entitled to an EMA, and what are your thoughts on the scheme?

I get nothing because my parents earn too much, but that doesn't automatically mean I get money off them. I bet you can guess what I think of it!

What is an EMA, exactly? From your poll, it sounds like a very, very cheap version of welfare. Or an allowance. But I didn't know allowances had acronyms.

Ridiculous for exactly the same reasons.

The thing is, the only people who really benefit are the ones who exploit it.

I know a load of people that get by on their attendance simply by coming in just the Friday every week or being friendly with the teachers.

It's supposed to be a scheme to support people in education by providing an allowance. Sadly, if your parents earn over a certain amount, you get jack shit.

I'm Irish, but I'm essentially in the same boat as you with our version, which is doubly annoying because they're bringing in college fees.
I had to pay to get into my college!

EMA is an incentive the government thought up. It pays people who don't have any secondary education and who's parents earn under a certain amount of money to come to college.

I'm no longer entitled to it, after my Mum got married again.

My step sister wastes it on cinema tickets.

Ah, so like, if you get good grades, you get money? If so, then that's what happened with me up until high school. $50 per A.

Nah, you get money if your parents don't earn alot. I get some, but I think it's a stupid idea, because you parents dont give you that money if they DO earn alot.

No, it's not $50 per A, it's a amount of money you get based on your parents income.

Oh no! Not Fat Man Spoon! WHY GOD?? WHY???

I used to get it when I was in sixth form, good stuff. People paying me for going to school? You best believe I'd jump on that!

But for those who don't know, it's a scheme that the government have used to get more people to study on to higher education and stick with it.

i get the full £30 due to single perant clause
woo go me but... yes there is a but
EMA do seem to like trying to keep money for themselves where ever possible. In my second year of college now an i have to wait for 3 weeks now before i get it again. All because i didnt get a NOE (notice of entitlement). Not my fault its your for not sending me one.
So yes EMA is a good idea in theory but with all the money grabbing ceo's and the such in practice it sucks.
rant over :D

I get £30.
I don't really need EMA as an incentive to go to school, but my mum's income sucks.
