I'm the only one that picked "Other" so far :p

Anyway, I picked other because I am a male and I'm comfertable being a male, but I have always thought of the "Man!" type person as not me.

I'm pretty feminine in my opinion, I'd don't mean I get along with them better, because I don't get along with many people, I just prefer Tomboyish girls that take charge in a relationship, most stereotypical "Guy" types I just can't stand, I prefer to not be put in the group of MAN :p

I also can appreciate a guy and I think I could even date/love a guy, I have never taking that Bi-sexual route, but i'm open-minded about it. I however love being a male and wouldn't change it...So therefore I choose *OTher* :)

I also have a girlish quality in appearance and little to no body hair... :)
I feel the same way as you (not to the same extent....) maybe to a lesser degree

but i voted male. Imma guy, even if i dont watch football and dont enjoy all manly things. I think the term for it is "metrosexual"...or rather I would be if I had more money to care about my fashion sense with

I've got a wang. I quite like having a wang.

Yeah, I think I'm male. Good enough for me.

If you're asking my biological gender, then I'm a veritable man, through and through.

However, if you're asking my identity, I'd have to say I'm a mix of both, since qualities are often stereotyped as either "male" or "female" and I cherish many qualities that most would call female, as I find them superior to the male counterparts.

Of course, the male/female dichotomy outside biology is a gross simplification and almost an insult to the subject matter (i.e. human beings capable of critical thinking and as such understanding the difference between absolute and statistic).

Incidentally, it's somewhat disheartening to see so many posts on this forum regarding gender and sexuality. Why is this so important? All these topics concern nothing but semantics and compartmentalisation baptised in bigotry or some version of hate.

I can't believe people care so much about something that has not even the slightest bit of relevance to their own lives.

But wouldn't you say forums like these are the perfect place to discuss those things? :p

I'm all for all expressions of gender... as for myself I'm somewhere in-between.

I'm a man, but I'm actually quite surprised at the poll. I always thought we were really equally matched between men and women around here, but maybe it's just the more avid posters.

Same as hermaphrodite is usually offensive to the intersex community.
Okay, I can kinda deal with the pointless negative inflection on Shemale, but 'hermaphrodite' is offensive how now? It's a word derived from Greek mythos (Hermes and Aphrodite, to be particular) and it literally means To posses the characteristics of both a male and a female at the same time. It has been used for centuries to describe genetic 'intersex' things (generic particle, don't start on me using the word things) in the natural world. Snails for example are Hermaphroditic, that is to say that they posses both male and female genitalia, ergo what you'd call intersex (if I'm not mistaken).
Please explain why the 'intersex' community hates a word that has been in use for so long and is possibly the most benign, unbiased* descriptor ever used for them?

*Even 'intersex' holds some bias as a word used in commonplace instead of a word deemed to be offensive (for no apparent reason) and henceforth is more biased than hermaphroditic.
Well, my understanding is simply that it's inaccurate. I didn't mean to say "hate" but I suppose "offensive" implies that... so maybe I was a bit inaccurate on my part! Sorry! My knowledge is primarily from intersex friends, educators & literature from intersex education organizations. Might not be true for you, your community or intersex friends!

You are totally correct that snails are hermaphrodites... which speaks to why many members of the intersex community don't use it to describe themselves. It's very rare, if not entirely unheard of, for a human to have both male and female genitals fully formed and in working order, like a snail or like the child of Hermes & Aphrodite! Someone who is intersex usually has a variation of some combination but almost never what one (rightly, biologically & mythologically) would recognize as hermaphroditic. It's just biologically, medically and physically inaccurate. Hopefully not something that needs arguing. I was just trying to help someone who seemed to want to be an ally to start learning good beginner ways to act as an ally! I say hooray to that and no offense intended! Hopefully no hard feelings! :)
According to Gina Wilson of the Organisation Intersex International, there has never been a true hermaphrodite (that is able to procreate with ones self due to male and female genitalia fully functional and developed) recorded in the history of the human race.
Intersex individual are intersexed, they're not hermaphrodites, they aren't even pseudo-hermaphrodites, just intersexed.
That being said there are many hermaphroditic species in the animal kingdom. No human has ever been recorded as a true hermaphrodite though. intersex people were originally classed as hermaphrodites but it was an incorrect term and was popular around the 80's.
that word has since been discarded in favour of Is or intersex, and I have several Is friends who are perfectly fine with that classification.
-Tabs<3-
Popular around the 80's? *chuckles* Okay. Sorry, I just found that odd.

I'm pretty sure it was around for a long time before that. Do you mean it began to fall out of use in the 80's? Or that the intersex community began to campaign against its use?

I am male who identifies as a man...

Which reminds me of a slam poetry piece I like about being a man:

Contrary to popular belief, It is not EASY to be a man
the requirements are endless
But for the sake of time, I'll cover the essential lessons we're taught from birth

1) You shall not
and I mean
All encompassing
Legally Binding
Federally Mandated Standards type
SHALL NOT
Be Weak
This is not negotiable

2) The sins of the Father pass to the Son
You will always remind someone of someone else's
Failings and Indiscretions
They will take it out on you
Deal with it

3) Regardless of the burden you bear
the world is running short on stock of shoulders to cry on
If Atlas ain't bitchin, then you've got no excuse
Grit your teeth grin and bear it

4) You are paid more than a woman
Because you're expected to
You're only as good as
your word
your genetalia
and your Bank Account

Rosetta Stone
And Viagra are available
But cash is hard to fake
besides
You still have to buy the first two

So make bread, cheddar, and lettuce
or be worthless

5) In a time of crisis,
Women and Children are rescued first
there are futures and life bearers at stake
you either had your chance to help make the next generation
or you weren't worth breeding with in the first place

So if the ship is sinking
you're expected to be your own Promiscuous Jesus

And save your fucking self

But if you don't save anyone else, you're a coward

6) You don't want your homophobic friends labeling you gay,
so you best be good with the ladies
If you're shitty at seeing titties, you're a loser
If you're too good, you're a pig

7) Be dapper
But if you're too concerned with your looks, you're a pretty boy
If you aren't concerned enough, you're a troll

8) If your father never comes 'round
or passes before your passage into adulthood,
You become the Man of the house
Nevermind that you haven't survived puberty yet,
We're all waitin on you kid, hurry up

9) Sacrifice to get ahead, 'cause if you sleep,
you're dead
You're a single ant mingling with mindless minions a million strong
Do not get left behind or trampled underfoot
They will eat you

10) In confrontation, defeat is not an option
If you never back down, you're a bully
if you always back down, you're a pussy

Don't expect any remorse, none of us got it
refer to #1

11) Emotions are too expensive for you
Time is money
and the clock is ticking
you eat, sleep, fuck, and hopefully die for a worthy cause
And if you're lucky,
you'll get to squeeze in some drunken mischief

12) Labours of Heracles I'd rather endure than this Horseshit
We've been dealt a crap hand from a deck our forefathers stacked against us
it's not fair
but neither is life so at least they didn't lie to us
I'm tired
of living up to someone else's standards
I'm tired
of being held to tenets as old as Rome
If you've Exhausted
as many options as I have, then I offer this solution
If Women can make a revolution
to reclaim their identity BEYOND feeling
Then we must make one to move back toward it

I realize that most men cannot afford the luxury
of using a pen as an outlet to plug into
So allow me to be of assistance
Let us re-write the list to which we are enlisted

1) Strong hearts are defined by more than a low BPM rate
and Stalwart friends are worth more than gold
these are called Exercises in Love
Be Not Afraid

2) Water rends cracks and valleys through Granite
And rusts Steel into nothingness
Your tears are stronger than muscles
it's a fact

3) You can fuck as often as you like
But a Soulmate
is a wish too scary to whisper for fear of jinxing it

So proclaim it to the world that you may make it so
Relationships take work because they're worth it
dive into Affection with Kamikaze feverance
you don't have long
so make it count

4) There is a world of warmth and emotion awaiting us all
If only we had the courage to grasp it
it is time to evolve
And as it is with everything else,
No one's gonna do it for us
We have to do it for ourselves
Because it's always Simple
And never Easy
to be a Man.

Hey, I'm all for discussing pointless stuff, believe me, it's just worrying to see such beliefs held by a lot of people.

Male on all counts.

I have to be honest my gender has never crossed my mind at all so it is difficult for me to relate to trans people. I'm all for people being what they are, or feel they are, but at what point does a person think "hold up this is wrong. I should be xx instead of xy" or vice versa? I'm guessing it's virtually impossible to explain to someone who has never felt those feelings how the process all works :s

Im male.. But one of my GF's friends is a shemale..

Or a dude with breasts if you like.. He is gonna remove his penis soon and make a "vagina" out of it too though..

I dont mind, he/she is a great person, and that is all that matters..
\
Then She is not a shemale... that is a derogitory term and is usually only applied to the porn industry. She is a male to female transsexual like myself.
-Tabs<3-
Derogatory? Heavens no. It's just a name that describes a person with parts male parts female. Ergo, She (female) Male (male, duh). It's not derogatory, it's about how the name is used (and as far as I'm aware it's pretty much how I just described) not how you personally take it.
I'm sorry to say that there is not a m2f person on this planet that wants to be called a shemale. It is very derogatory.

Shoot, after reading that, I can't believe I forgot to add Intersexed to the poll. :( I feel like it might be to late, now that the numbers are underway.

What, you don't think he is man? STFU
He might be a man (or boy depends how you look at it). He is also very bloody stupid.
He really deserves what he gets in that animation.
