Just a general survey. What are your views on foreign music as a whole, and of kpop specifically?

K-Pop shows all the signs of being from a country that only recently discovered The Beatles, Korn and New Kids On The Block at the same time. That's a good thing. I kind of like it because it takes certain elements of western music and completely divorces it from its cultural context, presenting it in a completely new way. That's the way pop should be - like aliens made it. I also love it how they sing about school all the time in the heavy songs. Korea is so much cooler and less self-conscious than Japan about these things.

foreign music is ear piercing to me, for the most part. not because i cant understand them, but because their music style ends up being similar to something i already hate.

For the most part the language doesn't matter in pop music. You can guarantee the lyrics will be asinine as fuck anyway.

Somebody posted supercell above and whilst they do put out some catchy pop tracks the lyrics tend to involve lines like "I WANT YOU TO ADMIRE THE FLAP ON MY SKIRT." It is easier to listen to the songs without having to deal with that blasting straight into your consciousness and making you feel like an idiot. I don't listen to a lot of foreign stuff because I don't listen to pop though. So disregard everything I just said.

I listen to synthpop, futurepop and industrial from all over Europe (and the wider world) because you'd be stupid not to, it's a properly international scene with great bands from all over the place. So yeah, I like foreign music and foreign language music.

But Asian music is in my opinion incredibly overrated. It's like they took all the elements of Euro/American manufactured pop and decided all it needed was to be slightly more generic and manufactured, and with a slightly more creepy focus on sexualizing high school kids.

I've met too many people who otherwise have very consistent and credible music tastes who suddenly devolve into drooling idiots trying to defend music they wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole were it made anywhere other than Asia, and that's just really fucking dumb.
