I've never owned a pokemon game and I've only ever played snatches of some of the older titles.

I don't have a great intention of buying a pokemon game as I'm not that big a fan of turn-based combat.

I love it, I don't see why me being any older makes the games any less fun. Anyone who thinks maturing is cutting out things you enjoy has the wrong idea about maturity. Growing up is about being comfortable in your own skin. I love the pokemon games and I think it would be immature to avoid them just because other people label them as for kids.

Edit: As has been said it's an entry level rpg (my first too) but it's also light-hearted unlike most rpgs which can be hard going after the 15th dungeon crawl, and the mechanic to have any enemy be on your team and then grow with you is not one that has been effectively utilised to the same extent in any other game.

I was at the "Pokemon age" (in this country about 4th grade, 10 years old, according to people)and a bit after that so about to Ruby and Sapphire but lately I think that up to gold silver was my opinion because then the artwork were still animals and not just bulbs flying around in different sizes and colours. But I still remember my old Pokemon days and even downloaded green to my gba emulator and played it through, it gave some good memories, but just like with any anime I also think it is suitable for any age if you just don't bother about the fact that it's not hard to find the meaning in each episodes and lack of blood and stuff like that, (which I don't mind at all, I don't need blood or too twisty plots) but I think the makers of the show have intended it for the kids and therefore it's a bit childish so to say.
The anime is okay. I really just watch it to see if there will be an actual battle. For a show that has to do with training and battling pokemon with other trainers, their is very little of it done. Battling and blasting off Team Rocket doesn't count. I tend to skip those parts; it got old after first the twenty or so original episodes.

Game-wise, they are awesome. I had Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, and Silver. Missed Crsystal. Missed Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Leaf Grean and Fire Red, on the advanced, but played them all on an emulator. I have Diamond, Pearl, and Heart Gold. Yeah there are a lot of new pokemon that are worthless, but I just catch'em and be done with it. I am actually loving the news about pokemon Black and White having it where you can't encounter or catch the old ones until you beat the Elite Four. I think it will make the game fresh and like the old days when you didn't know what the heck type a certain pokemon was until you fought it a couple times and remember.

My team on Heart Gold right now is in the mid 50's, I have 14 badges.
My team is:

Typhlosion: Flamethrower, Blast Burn, Rollout, Cut
Dragonite: Draco Meteor, Dragon Rush, Surf, Waterfall(going to replace with fly when I remember to when playing.
Noctowl: Extrasensory, Air Slash, Hypnosis, Fly
Exeggutor: Confusion, Leaf Storm, Sleep Powder, Strength (I raised for the powerful grass part, Psychic part is bonus, will teach it Psychic when I get another Psychic TM. Used my Psychic TM on Butterfree.
Butterfree: Psychic, Bug Buzz, Sleep Powder, Flash (Will get rid of Flash when I am certain I won't be going in anymore caves. I hate flash caves.
Golduck: Surf, Whirlpool, Zen Headbutt, Rock Smash

It is a pretty reasonable team. I did have problems with Champion Lance. I went to the Elite Four too early. Got too confident when I sweeped the Elite Four, but was smashed by Lance. So it took me two tries the first time. I won't make that mistake again.

Can't say I like anything past 2nd gen. Playing the same game with different skins for the past 10 years is not my idea of fun either.

I'm with the "there are only 151 pokemon" crowd. When they started getting beyond that, it became ridiculous. Really, after Silver/Gold, they just started taking what they had and adding sharp edges and making them look absolutely outlandish.

They have all been great games so far, and I continue to enjoy them.
Basically this. I love the strategy and amusing villains that come with them. Some of the Pokemon admittedly.. look bizarre in the newer versions, but I stopped after Fire Red. Which is when I also sold my DS.

.. I should really get one again.

Oh man, I could sit here for hours talking about all the great memories I have of the series. Back when Pokemon was super-mega-popular, I was known for being extremely obsessed. I always tuned in to the show, even if it was a rerun. My Gameboy Color always had a Pokemon cartridge in it, and I always had it on me. I had hundreds of cards and toys, I had books, board games, you name it I had it.

But I just can't get into it anymore. I'll pick up one of the old games occasionally and play them for a little while, but I never get the urge to try to see the game all the way through.

Yeah, the 150th and last Pokemon is Mew.

Mewtwo doesn't exist, he defied logic and tried to come before what is supposedly Mewone.

I wish I could play one on my 360, PS3, Wii, or computer.

If I could, then I might be able to give more to this post.

Can I place a racists crack about the USA President and make it all better??

Haven't played anything past LeafGreen. Sapphire is my favourite but I don't have a problem with the new games.

Personally, Pokemon can go fuck itself. I have no idea how much time I wasted pointlessly griding away at the version I had (Silver), attempting to catch everything (I got within about ten of a complete list once) and completing the main story over and over again because I managed to do everything (I didn't exactly have a large games library ;_;). Then I got another version (Crystal) hoping it would be different and it was exactly the same. Then I tried Yellow and either Ruby or Sapphire, and it was all the same. TV Tropes was incorrect in terming this One Game For The Price Of Two; it's more accurate to describe it as One Game For The Price Of Fifteen. Its popularity I understand, but people managing to justify to themselves that they are paying for and playing a different game is something I don't.

I think there are enough pokemon, but if any new games are made they need to mix things up a bit. The setting, plot and characters might be a start: they need to concoct a new way make us set out on a pokemon journey other than 'you want to catch'em all'. I like the idea of being a rookie team rocket agent with a disturbing past that eventually learns that crime is wrong and rebels and stuff. No more gyms, badges etc.

i loved it when there were 151 i could remember them all, then i faded out of it for a while, then i bought diamond and looked in the pokedex at like 483 of them i was like whaaat, some of the designs are clearly rushed because they just want to make more and more instead of putting good ideas and back stories to fewer pokemon
