So I am quite surprised to have not found a single thread bringing up the topic of how Youtube decided to integrate Google+ into the comment system. What has resulted is a bunch of users unable to comment because they get a prompt trying to link to Google, which then asks about Google+. As a matter of fact I don't even know what happens, because every time I click to try to comment, I get an annoying prompt asking me whether I want to change to my real name saved on Google or keep my YT username. Regardless of what my choice is, then it goes on to a blank screen which never loads anything, so I'm forced to close the window, which then gives me a message reading "Ok, we'll ask you again later."
WHAT. THE EFFFING. SHIT.
How about "Don't bother me at all with that, I just want to freaking comment!"
But no. Now the easily simple and functional comment system which has been around as one of Youtube's first primary features has now been completely screwed for reasons inconceivable. I can pretty much never comment again. As much as I hated it, I went ahead and did the Google+ linking, and... nothing! I try clicking to comment once again, it opens a new window with a header about Google+, and then it just.. closes. That's it. No clue as to why it closes, but that's all. I cannot resolve it.
Seriously, the effects of this are far bigger than they appear at first. I just found a video by TotalBuscuit explaining the implications of this new catastrophy. Very insightful. It highlights problems which I was not aware that they even existed until I watched the video:
Also a good rant from someone who also makes a living off being able to upload AND work with videos and their comments and feedback:
Just type "youtube comments" in the search bar and you will get plenty of videos explaining just why Youtube is a complete trainwreck at this point, yet there doesn't seem to be any signs of improvement or reparations.
This has pretty much turned into an issue of why Youtube is pretty much done for. The website that has provided us with a reliable and simple medium to relay content to sites such as this one has pretty much been turned into an irrepairable mess, and I am already looking into migrating to new sites, and leaving Youtube behind in the dust, because at this point, using is more harmful than beneficial.
