It would depend how close the zombie(s) was. If far away a rifle. If close up a shotgun. Using a melee weapon is too risky in terms of getting infected.

If I could choose more than one:

1. Bolt Action Rifle, pref. a Win 308.
2. A shotgun, I'll go with the Remington 870 Express Super Magnum
3. A crowbar, titanium alloy
4. A pistol - Colt Single Action Army, for the style

Crowbar. Not only does it never run out of ammo and is extremely effective in crushing the skull to destroy the brain but it can also be used for a tool when on the run.

I would use a banhammer, to fend off the seemingly infinite horde of zombie threads.
Search button would prolly work well, too...

Still, if I had the choice, I'd use a Shoopuf.
Best thing to come out of FFx, by far.

A Pushbroom! "It's the best weapon in the game!"
ha ha! Quality!
I hit 'Crowbar', but ideally a sword & biking leathers. Silence & defence against infection.

guns need reloading which takes time plus bullets can miss. if i had to use a gun i'd go for a pistol due to little recoil so more accurate shots. my ideal weapon would be a sword, preferably a katana and preferably 2 of them.
Actually guns would be much better than katanas, with a katana you would have to waste time cleaning of all the blood off of the blade after every couple of enemies, you would probably tire yourself out earlier because of all the wild flailing you would be doing, it would only be effective at a short range unlike a gun, wich would make it near impossible to tackle a large group of enemies, after every hit you would make yourself vulnerable to other nearby enemies, there is the chance that the blade might get stuck into the corpse of one of the zombies you hit, leaving you defenseless.

While the katana has a lot of cool factor, it would probably be the worst weapon you could pick in the event of a zombie apocalypse.

There is a reason if soldiers today use guns instead of swords.

Problem with a shotgun is, if the zombie jumps you up close you might not be able to draw the weapon up between you and it in time. Pistol gets my vote

Give me a 10 gauge and a fire axe, and I'm all set for the zombie apocalypse.

fire and flamethrowers are actually not successful against zombies at all. human flesh takes a while to burn and has little to no effect on bone, so the zombies could literally be chasing you, very much (un)alive AND on fire.

the only upside of using fire is that it destroys any and all traces of the zombie virus

None of the above.

If I had to, I would use the crowbar. But I'd rather use a steel sledge/maul in my right hand (my good hand) and a light weight steel crowbar in my left. (offhand)
