I just rented DA:O for the PS3 via gamefly, and I saw that it did have quite a bit of DLC available for it. Of course I can't get any of that fun free Day 1 DLC, but there does seem to be quite a bit of stuff out there. Obviously I'm not going to go for the $40 DLC, but is any of this other stuff (Return to Ostagar, Warden's Keep, etc) worth getting and if so, WHEN is the appropriate time to get it? Right now I'm still VERY early in the game, not even past the "backstory" mission, but the game does seem very intriguing and I could see myself sinking a lot of time into this adventure. If I end up "keeping" the game I'd probably get The Stone Prisoner for free via the redemption code when they send me the case (that's what happened with Mass Effect 2 and the Cerberus Network code) but how about the other stuff?

If you're going to get it, you might as well get it as early as possible.

I wouldn't recommend buying DLC for a rented game though. It kinda defeats the whole purpose of renting a game IMO.

I've got it, but i'm also wondering whether to get the other DLC's apart from The Stone Prisoner. So for me, this could be an interesting thread...

Here is my advice. since you asked ;)

Get Return to Ostagar if you are really into Alistair's story. It offers some closure to his background. And you get a couple of swords you might like.

Get Wardens Keep if you are interested in some Grey Warden back story. There is also some nice armor in that one.

Use the Stone Prisoner before you got to the Dwarves, and pick up the character from that quest before you go to the Dwarves if you want some more background on the dwarven history. This character is a good tank character if you want one.

Don't get the Blood Dragon armor unless you get it for free.

My input:

- Blood Dragon armor is seriously one of the best sets of armor in the game. That said, it's probably not worth paying for.
- Warden's Keep comes with two unique abilities, the best sword in the game, and some okay armor. The mission itself is fair, if somewhat short.
- Stone Prisoner gives you a new party member with a fun little quest to obtain it, as well as it's own personal quest that you unlock partway through the main game. The character is fun and doesn't really play like anyone else. Highly recommend.
- Return to Ostagar is just okay. Weakest of the story missions, I'd say.
- The $40 expansion is something you'd have to consider getting after you complete the main game. I enjoyed it, but it's really up to you if you decide you want another 15-20 hours of Dragon Age when you finish with the main game.

And just for the record, Dragon Age on consoles should be some sort of warcrime. If you have the machine to handle it, I highly recommend the PC version.

My machine probably can handle it (it's 5 years old but was built to last), but for me the main issue is that I can't "rent" the PC version, and I didn't want to throw down $50 on a game I didn't like and couldn't even sell to try and recoup some of my loss. Also, my big PC is basically tied down to my big screen TV, while with my console I can move it from my living room to my bedroom.

I went in sadly knowing that I wasn't getting the best possible experience, but I felt that I shouldn't miss out on what many seem to declare THE RPG of 2009 because of those previous issues.

I'm about halfway through Awakenings and still using those weapons LOL. RTO I thought was the worst out of the batch. Good equipment but on the story side it just should have been in the game. Well that and they just recycled everything to make it. I have enjoyed every other DLC pack (excluding the feast day stuff which was far to late and pricey)

My opinions on the DLC:

Return to Ostagar: Very little content, not very interesting or meaningful at all unless you really like Alistair you really disliked the King. Skip it.

Warden's Keep: An excellent (but sorta short, hourish, maybe a bit more) addition to the main game, lets you get a good suit of armor, some weapons and two very useful (at least for a mage) abilities. Also gives a chest for you to store extra items at. Buy it if you like the lore.

The Stone Prisoner: Adds a new character, who is, for lack of a better term, AWESOME. If you're evil, or enjoy evil characters, anyway. He is a great addition to the party, can tank, do damage, and even heal people in his different forms. Has a great side quest and is a very interesting character. If your character is kind of a jerk, or you like jerk characters, BUY IT no question. If you're a goody two shoes all the time and don't enjoy humor.. skip it.

Awakenings: Did you REALLY love Dragon Age? Really really? Yes? Okay, get it. Otherwise, wait for the price to drop to 20 bucks.

Just my opinion, hope it helps :)
