Poor Altair...

Yeah I understand the portable games do explain more of Altair's story. I have played Altair's Chronicles, and it was an average game in my opinion. I have heard the same about the other portable games as well. What I was more referring to is how Ezio's life has been expanded upon with DLC (yes I know, technically they are part of the original game) and now his life is being expanded upon with another console game. There was also a short movie released before the game, and a book as well. All dealing with different parts of Ezio's life (the movie was from his father's perspective, but shows his origins). All we have for Altair are two portable games. Seems a little uneven. Since he is my favorite, I just think it would be cool to see more on his life. Not necessarily a new whole game, but maybe some DLC for the first AC.

Even his appearance in AC2 was little. Did he even speak? I do not recall.

He got the PSP game Screed bloodlines. After the 1st game he becomes head of the assassains, fall in love, studies the apple, loses his loved one and kills those who killed her, and dies knowing that there is no beyond.

Altair was an emotionless action hero. I could not relate to him nor feel sorry to what happened to him in the end. Ezio is a more developed character with emotion, reason and an actual motivation to do what he's doing.

Me and a friend were discussing this last weekend, actually. We both liked Altair, but we wanted to keep the story moving forward. Then we remembered the codex in AC2, how it linked both generations. We both agreed that in AC3, there should be a way to play as multiple ancestors; Altair in his early days (he was said to be one of the best at the start of 1), whether or not Ezio's included depends on Brotherhood, some guy from Civil War era America (assuming the present is in the US, this explains how Desmond's ancestors got to the US, if set somewhere else, pick a different war, but around the same time. Primitive guns keep this from becoming an FPS.) Cold War era Russia (Undercover, better for free roaming! Make it stealth based like Splinter Cell or MGS) and Desmond (A culmination of all previous parts). All get little hints that make no sense when apart, but when put together, Desmond is able to act on them.

I like Ezio for his personality and the building up to how he takes after his father (I haven't finished AC2 yet though). I also like Altair, what few minutes I played of the first, for his general aura of assassin-to-be. What's interesting is their link by blood, yet their distinct personalities. Who'd want to play as the same guy in two different time periods basically? Like I said, I haven't finished 2 and only played a few minutes of 1, so I can't say much about Desmond. From what I have gathered though, he just seems kind of generic and could use more personality

Personally, I found Altair to be incredibly bland. Yeah, he gets a little bit of character development over the game, but at the end, he's basically the same as he was before. Ezio actually learns and grows, going from a vengeance-fueled teenaged casanova to a mature man who kills because it is necessary and has abandoned the need for revenge. That, and Ezio's game was just better than the first one. Assassin's Creed was a good game, don't get me wrong, but AC2 was a great game.

And yeah, they both are getting a few side games. Altair's had two so far (I think), Ezio got one where he met Christopher Columbus, and Brotherhood is Ezio's last outing, I believe. The next game has a new protagonist.

Altaïr (say it right!) was my dude. Ezio just annoyed the crap out of me. I'd be interested more in the AC games if they'd either go back to the Flying One, or just a new character (also, please don't make him a white guy, we have plenty of those. Honest).

I understand character development, I really do, but can we give our guys more than one likable trait at the beginning? Being a good older brother doesn't sell him for the first two hours of the game.

How the fuck did you make umlauts? I've been trying for years!

Wasn't Altair just a soulless white coat with a lot of pointy edges? Ezio actually seemed human regardless of the fact that time apparently doesn't affect him.

I never much cared for Altair, and the only reason I stuck through the first game at all was because I got into the storyline with Desmond and all of them. Ezio at least had a personality to him, douchey or not. Altair sounded like he was deadpanning 90% of his lines so robotically a computer could have voiced him and been more interesting.

As for the next "ancestor," the second game really seemed to be playing up Desmond's coming into being a proper assassin (the entire point was training him, wasn't it?), and the final bit I won't spoil for anyone here made it pretty obvious, at least to me, that action on his part would be needed in the modern world, and soon. If AC3 isn't primarily about Desmond, I'll be authentically surprised, and possibly a little peeved. They've laid out more than enough plot for the story to extend into Desmond's time, and I'd kinda like to reach a conclusion and stab a knife through a certain scientist before I need to drop a few hundred bucks I don't have on the next console generation to see it through.

AC: Lost Legacy on the 3DS is supposed to see Ezio going to Masayaf, so perhaps we'll see more of Altair in a flashback or something.

But I think I like Ezio better. His character feels more developed and fleshed out to me.
