Most of the time when we buy or use things, be it items or services, we don't have any problems. Sometimes you draw the short straw though, and I thought we could share our own personal experiences with poor services.
My example is a rather ridiculous one.
I pre-ordered Bioshock Infinite from a website. I decided to pre-pay using paypal as I am not a regular customer of the site (although it is a reputable website, and very well known), and didn't really fancy putting in card details. A few days later I decided to do the same for a copy of Dead Space 3 as they had the cheapest price including first class postage and packaging.
I clicked to pre-order but nothing happened. So I manually searched for it and went through it by adding it to the basket and buying it that way. I was asked to pay the £38.98 for the game and promptly did so.
I then received two identical confirmation emails, but seeing as the order number was the same, and the website said I had ordered one copy, I just assumed they were duplicates.
Several days later I receive two dispatch emails. I am confused, and assume they must have sent me two copies by mistake, seeing as I only paid for one. I look on the website and it says I have bought two copies and they now both have separate order ID's (as they send all items separately from that site). In the morning I give them a call, and decide to do the right thing and tell them they went me two copies, and was intending to send one back (assuming they paid for postage.)
I am informed that I did indeed order two copies (apparently the time it "didn't work" added one to the basket without me realising). Although of course that didn't explain why I was only asked to pay for one copy.
It turns out that without notifying me, they had taken the payment from Bioshock Infinite as payment for the second copy, despite my Bioshock Infinite order being marked as "Paid For". So they tell me that if I send the second copy back, they'll check that off against my Bioshock order.
Not amused, I tell them that I shouldn't have to pay for a second copy being sent back considering I was never informed of ordering two of them, and that my money was down for Bioshock, so it shouldn't have been "taken" for a copy of Dead Space, they should have asked me to pay for both of them if I had ordered them.
So I refused the delivery, and as the parcel had a return to sender address it would automatically be sent back to them.
It's been 11 days and they apparently haven't had it back yet. According to the Royal Mail it should have been, but it may have been accidentally sent to the centre for post that was unable to be delivered for reasons such as inaccurate addresses or post without a return address.
To add to my good mood, I sold my copy of Farcry 3 on Ebay. The guy never got it, so I need to wait for the 15 days to be up for it b counted as "lost" to claim for compensation and get my money back.
How about you? Had any bad experiences with services you have paid for?
