TerRover on PSN gets my vote. It wasn't terribly reviewed, but in my opinion it was better than the average public opinion (thanks Metacritic!) on it. I will admit the controls were tough to get used to but I've spent quite a bit of time trying to find all the extras, not to mention with the multiplayer.

Kudos to those replies. I too think that Dragon Age II was better than most gave it credit for: Bioware diverted from their usual plot formula, and that - plus the characters and the sense of life that Kirkwall was given - is the main reason why I've completed it more times than DA:O. The Last Remnant is another one that is great despite the flak it got, I just have a great backlog of games to get through - it's still better than most (actually reminds me of Final Fantasy Tactics, where the outcome of a fight depends more on your units equipment and skills than just their levels/stats).

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: explorers of time

Reviewers didn't like it often for its repetitive gameplay. I fucking loved it for its characters and story
Absolutely agree. The writing for the prequel wasn't as good, and time had a little bit more dumbed down dialogue, but holy -hell- did it make me cry. As did the prequel which has a twist so dark it made me squeal with glee. As did the sequel which draws out the sadness over a ridiculously long time to just make it -worse-, and yet better.
I am currently playing Gates to Infinity and I can safely say its actually quite great. No huge twists but the developers seem to be taking ques from what made the explorers games so great.

The story has a simple premise with characters flowing with personality that it makes my head spin, though I still feel more attached to my partner from the Explorers games. I should also mention that the writing can be mix between funny (talk to Swanna the first time) and endearing.

Gameplay has improved to actually be challenging though, reviver seeds are now far more scarce and in exchange they give you like 10 things to prepare for a dungeon.

Though I don't like how you can't do multiple missions in this one.

Still, lives up to what I believed it would be. Fucking great as a game.

I'm gonna say Captain America: Super Soldier. Yeah, it's a movie tie-in game, but there's no rule about how those HAVE to suck (exhibit A: Goldeneye, Exhibit B: Spider-Man 2). It truly felt like Batman:Arkham Asylum meets Castle Wolfenstein, because it's set in Castle Zemo after HYDRA took it over, and it has a bunch of classic Cap villains, collectibles a-plenty, and you can throw the freaking shield!
I completelly agree. I actually liked the combat in CA: SS better because the shield was easier to use and felt "better" than Batman's many gadgets. As they say, if you're gonna copy, copy from the best. That game was awesome.

In terms of professional reviews, I'd say Mindjack and Dark Void. In terms of gamer reviews, Dead Island, Bioshock 2, Dmc, Bionic Commando (remake), Brutal Legends and Spec Op the Line.

I'd say for Dead Island, SSX, Halo 3: ODST, Spec Ops: The Line, and Goldeneye 007 (Wii).

Tony Hawk RIDE, I was one of 4 people who enjoyed it, the board worked great for me, I liked the concept and have been a massive TH fan since 99.

Legend of Dragoon, critics called it a Final Fantasy ripoff but it was my first RPG on the Playstation and I still love it today.

This gen J-RPGs especially "moe" J-RPGs NISa is localizing, i even enjoyed original Hyperdimension Neptunia!
Though I never played the original, I do have both mk2 and Victory. They're quite amusing... but they can be bizarre. I mean, no other franchise that I know of lets you summon Keiji Inafune.
By the way, games by their developers Idea Factory and Compile Heart generally get dismissed as trash by asshole reviewers that don't give those games a fair chance. And Nep Victory's start-of-game trophy's detail calls out those very assholes:

"Ooh, looks like you started a new game! Think any game reviewers won't get this one!?" -Neptune

I'd say for Dead Island
Was it? It received a lot of justified negative attention at the beginning with all of it's bugs, specifically the developer build that was shipped on the PC version. Once all of that was cleaned up, the game was received relatively positive, and reviewers gave, in my view, deserving scores. It was a game with some fun at the beginning that began to go numb towards the end, and a lot of the serious and emotional themes it tried to portray fell flat.

I remember enjoying Vin Diesel's Wheelman when it first came out, although that may have been because I'd played Assault on Dark Athena over that Christmas and thought Vin's company could do no wrong.

Recently, I mostly just buy games I know will be good beforehand.

Know what?

I enjoyed Kane and Lynch.

Yet I agree that it's quite a middling-to-actually-quite-bad game.

I liked the environments, I liked the characters (absolutely no redeeming qualities, but that's the point), and actually that's about it.

So I agree with the bad reviews, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Just before FIFA and PES became as big as they are now, there were a ton of smaller football games, and the best by far was "RedCard Soccer". Now, from I remember it wasn't received well by critics because it wasn't realistic...and it wasn't FIFA. However, any complaints can be thwarted by way of two points:

-You can play as a team of dolphins
-You can drop-kick people in the neck and not even get a yellow card

*sigh* oh were to begin with this one.

Fable III
Crap boss fight in the end. Could do without the silly, "YOU ARE NOW KING MAKE BINARY CHOICES LOL!" but all that aside it was still pretty fun and I felt like the twist in the middle was really cool. When you first meet the big baddy the whole time I was just thinking, "This is kind of creepy... why isn't this my enemy instead of my stupid brother." then my stupid brother was like, "YO! THAT'S THE BIG BADDY!" and I was all like, "Well, okay then...."

Dragon Age 2
Yes the endless waves of enemies is horrible. Yes the environments are reused. Yes the story could use a bit more structure. But dat combat. It's everything I wanted DA:O combat to be, I actually learned all my characters moves and felt the need to use them strategically. It was so much fun compared to DA:O combat where I just had my mages spam stuff and I won (And that's on Nightmare difficulty mind you). Also Merrill. I don't care what anyone has to say. Merrill is by far one of the greatest video game characters ever.

Bioshock 2
Yeah I didn't play Bioshock before hand so I don't care that Adam is suddenly just flung around as a special "DO ANYTHING" device. I enjoyed this one a lot. One of my favorite FPS games of all time.

Mirror's Edge
SO much awesome!

Kameo
Not exactly reviewed badly. Just forgotten really fast. I really wish they would have done more with this. I want to be a bad-ass fairy some more T_T
