So ya...I got PoP: The Two Thrones yesterday from GFWL(blah blah blah, people are going to say its bad, but I had 1000 extra points lying around), since I love the series so much and thought it would be nice that have a portable version of the game for my laptop.

So I have that game all installed, and I'm encountering some problems with it =S...

1)The game keeps changing its speed from normal to slow as molasses. It really shouldn't be doing this especially with the specs my laptop has. I even went and checked the FPS of the game running, to see if that was the problem....but I was getting a constant 55-60 FPS even in the slow as molasses parts.

2)The lip-sync is just off. And not slow off like the rest of it...the dialog is going too fast than what the animation can keep up with.

3)I should be able to play this maxed out for the most part, or at least a medium...but I have to pretty much put everything all the way down, even to get it to the constant 60 FPS molasses part.

I'm going to post the my specs compared to the game's recommended ones if that will help anything...

And ya, I know it says 2000/XP only, but both the GFWL and the game's own config reqs say it works fine for Vista, and I even had it in XP compatibility mode, to no avail.

I don't really think I'm that computer derp, but why the heck isn't this running right?

Any help is appreciated.

Umm, from what you said last time before you changed it =P

The graphic choices are pretty much:

Resolution
Filtering(Bilinear or Trilinear)
V-sync
Special Effects
Shadow Effects
Water Effects
Fog

And no, nothing else running in the background =S

Well I seem to have found somewhat of a workaround for it. Apparently, the PoP games for the PC(the SoT trilogy, I mean), really hate anything that isn't a single core processor, so forcing the game to run on just one helped smooth out the gameplay.

Got no more molasses gameplay with that fix, but still have lip sync issues...and I really think I should be able to play this with the specs that I have =S...But with that said...anyone know of a way to permanently force a program's affinity?

Not to point out the obvious but the OS!
agreed

vista especially on a laptop is highly...funky with running games, i had it on my laptop for a while and it was extremely frustrating with alot of games for no damn reason at all. and your running 32 bit so your minimizing your total RAM possibility so i'm sure you have a few random hidden things in the background running that aren't going to well with having PoP running

unfortunately besides turning resolution down and some of the graphical settings, I can't recommend too much more besides maybe finding any hotfix or patches online.

WTF kind of a captcha is that?!?!

That's the thing though. This laptop is fine for running the games I want, not amazingly, but fine nonetheless.

I have New Vegas on here running perfectly at medium settings, L4D2 at medium, TF2 at high just fine, Street Fighter 4 and Blazblue at medium, and even the newer NFS: Hot Pursuit which is running fine. It's only some of the older games which seems to be having this problem, like Kotor(which I got working for the most part) or Psychonauts.

I just don't understand why a game like this which is only 6 years old is going all finniky on me =S

yeah, sometimes older games refuse to work on vista, i have had some problems running some old favorites of mine on my other laptop, but besides a couple hotfix/patches you might find online and setting the game to running on one or two cores, there isn't much else i could figure you could do..

Piss about with the settings. I remember when I tried to play SoT not long ago I had to turn something off (fog maybe, can't remember) because it kept messing the game up like that.

Turn them all off and run it, if the problem's gone, turn them all back up individually. That includes resolution and everything.

Ya, I guessed as much =S It really does run best with the whole running on 1 core though....though it still seems to have slowdown issues when the game uses its own dynamic lighting...and the lip sync is still off..but I guess it is still the best I will have to live with atm.
