Hyper Zombies/Exploding Zombies etc (zombies can spawn with different effects).
Captain Zombie (rides a boat).
Hand gliding zombie (air zombies/seagulls etc are the new medium like water/night in the first).

I do hope it's a full fledged sequel with survivor mode unlocked right at the start... it would be awesome =D
Agreed. Maybe some more minigame modes, hopefully a two player one where one person defends the garden while one sends zombies. Not sure how it would work but it would be fun.

Also it should have said Love the Zombies at the bottom like it does in PvZ :p

PvZ was actually inspired by Warcraft III.

I always imagined PvZ2 would be a masochistic hell-hole that contained such fun gimmicks such as a level in the complete dark and having to beat a day time level with only your shrooms.

What happened? Ive heard/seen nothing about an announcement...
I'm not sure, but visiting the website shows an announcement for the Game of the Year Edition, which apparently comes with bonus content (20 new achievements and the Zombatar thing ingame). Admittdely I don't know if this is new, but I don't recall seeing it on the PvZ website when I looked it up a few days ago when I saw this article.

You've gotta be kidding me. That was the announcement?! A Game of the Year edition?! I mean, congratulations, that's great, but I almost had a heart attack when I thought PvZ 2 might've been coming out...

Yeah I was kind of wondering why the Escapist hadn't reported on this yet. The "save the date" was an invitation to the Plants vs Zombies XBLA release party. Laura Shigihara (the composer) did a write up on her blog about the event [http://shigi.wordpress.com/2010/08/03/plants-vs-zombies-xbla-release-party/] which left me feeling envious that I wasn't invited, hehe.

Highlights: The real "Crazy Dave" was there, she and George Fan performed the zombie-song live [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHhuWQ4UpHE], and there is apparently a really fun "versus mode" in the Xbla version.

This could be cool - I joined PvZ late, and absolutely loved it ^_^

On a side note, the one weapon they really missed out on was Missile-Toe, and a missing damage pattern is a ranged projectile that does line damage - like a combo of Fume-shroom and Melon-pault. I'd almost be happy if that sort of thing was included! Also, a cone of fire weapon could be cool.

Enemies could take advantage of different effects and things specific to plants - infected plant eating bugs, burning zombies that ignite plants they reach, zombies with bug spray - or riding one of those weed-sprayer ATVs, spraying other lanes as it passes. Man, once you start thinking and deriving inspiration from the horticultural world, the possibilities are endless ^_^
