Since I play a lot of sandbox games, I have to deal with a lot of popup issues. For example, in Red Faction: Guerilla, smokestacks and mountains tend to spontaneously appear out of nowhere. In Asssassin's Creed 1 & 2, the same thing could be said about tall buildings. This usually doesn't bother me, but when GIANT buildings just materialize out of nowhere, it's a little weird. Does it bother you?

Normally: No. Driving really fast, thinking it's clear and then suddenly running in to a popin building: YES

Apply this to flying in GTA: San Andreas.

God, I've died soooo many times like that.

Well, not usually, and I've read a dev interview for the devs of RF:G who said that with a higher draw distance the game couldn't handle it and lagged ridiculously, so I like it as an alternative.

I'm running the fast as i can make Ezio and Altair to try and escape the guard then BAM random building appears and knocks my ass over..Good thing there isn't a law about a voice breaking the sound barrier.

If your PC isn't perfect it'll do that with a low draw distance. I hate driving in san andreas and crashing into an invisible building haha.

I play WoW but have an incredibly poor PC. I always have to keep my draw distance low... It's very immersion breaking to have a giant citadel suddenly materialize out of nowhere when I should have been able to see it from miles away. And then you see something slightly farther away and more of it has loaded in while most of the citadel hasn't because it also counts things on a higher axis as being farther away...

So I can see all of that annoying mountain but only the lower chunk of the citadel of doom. >_<

I don't notice pop-in with AC2 (PS3), is it common in other consoles?

I do hate it when objects don't refresh and switch between low and high detail models fast enough. Like if I'm looking at a rough approximation of a house, then when I zoom in, it remains a rough sprite made out of 5 pixels for a few seconds before catching up with the rest of the game.

That annoys me. Noone's fault, but it's bleedin' irritating

Fallout 3 was also kinda shitty on my computer. NPCs tended to appear about 20 feet away. Still close enough to shoot me but not close enough to see them.

This reminds me of the ps2 launch title Summoner. A game so riddled with glitches and bugs it was probably a good year from being actually ready to ship. It was not uncommon for walls to pop in mere feet in front of you.

You know though, I liked the game anyway. Always called it the little rpg that could.

I guess I've never gamed on a system with graphical abilities NOT to have popups in game.

I just deal with it.

No i find this to usually be just one of those nit picky things game reviewers look for. Like frame rate be 60 as apposed to 30. It's really not that big of a deal unless you playing a game like DMC.

I hate pop-in so much. I used to not be able to play Fallout 3 because of it, but then I tweaked the graphical settings and everything's much more realistic now.
