Porn, what's your opinion?

hey, this should be pretty straight forward. What is your opinion on pornography? As a girl...it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I think some porn can be quite arousing actually. I'm interested to see what others think.

Wha exactly are you asking? Do we watch it or not? Do we approve of it or not? I personally don't watch it but then sex doesn't have much appeal to me anyway, so it's not surprising.

I'm all for porn, I just have one problem with it - why is it so hard to find a cameraman who can hold a goddamn camera steady for five seconds without whooshing over here, turning back there, zooming in, zooming out and just generally acting like a fly caught in a hurricane?

You know, my brother's girlfriend brought this up in a conversation about art once. She said that she had read that had it not been for the revolution of home media, (VHS and then later naturally the DVD) porn would have been continued to be screened in theaters and thus become a more accepted part of society. I mean, if you look at some vintage porn titles (of which I naturally know only what Ive researched, hrm hrm) you can actually spot some really decent titles, some better than the average movie that came out at the same time.

But with the VHS came consumption porn, so to speak, and now it's basically scenes with a certain theme piled together on one dvd, or sold separately online. It's masturbation aid, not an arousing entertainment. (Of course it was the former in the old days too, but not to the same, "private", degree) Boogie Nights is an excellent example of what happened at this time. A film well worth your time, if you havent seen it.

It's a very interesting thing to bring up when discussing art, especially when so many gamers are joining the discussion with a defense of their chosen media, to think that porn could have been considered art and even equal to movies, had things not happened the way they did.

My biggest problem with porn, as a lesbian, is that it seems that most lesbian porn is made for those who, by definition, cannot actually take part. The Japanese are slightly better about this, as they'll try to make the characters convey some actual emotion between scenes, except in anime where it's like an official law that if you have a movie with two female leads, one of them has to grow a dick somewhere.

yeah, most mainstream "lesbian" porn is made by and for horny straight men. I find that the porn made for actual lesbians is of much higher quality.

Eh, i'd have to disagree. i really don't think that alone would have been enough to overcome America's cultural taboo on sex.

Yup yup.

It's also funny that they claim that the fashion of women in porn having entirely shaved pubes encourages pedophilia when sexual crimes against children, while still unhappily high, haven't increased at all and certainly not because of this.

And yeah, females as the dominant seems to be more popular. It's probably because the kind of guys who get off on being in charge don't get the same enjoyment out of watching it, while there is much more vicarious thrill from seeing someone else being dominated.

I think it also has a lot to do with more men being willing to admit that they can be aggressive and manly in their public persona, but can also be submissive in a more intimate setting. Mind you, there's still some people can't seem to fathom that submissive and aggressive aren't mutually exclusive.

OT: Porn is totally fine. All "problems" it can cause are because of the mental attitude of the people watching it.

That can be said about almost any issue.

I don't see why anyone has a problem with it; it's a perfectly natural act, the people involved are doing it out of their own volition, people are not so psychologically brittle that watching it is going to have any impact on their attitudes toward the opposite/same sex/whatever you're into and it has kept roughly 85% of the male population company on many a lonely saturday night. If you don't like it, don't look it up. If you don't want your kids watching it, then use some fucking initiative and put parental controls/filters up.

It is a horrible thing that I wish didn't exist.

Call me a "prude" if you like but simply put my own moral code doesn't like the idea of porn.
