Has anyone played the new Port Royale 3?

It just came out like yesterday and I'm anxious to see if it holds up to the brilliant second game.

I don't even know why I loved the second so much. It was huge and the kind of game that writes the story through gameplay. You didn't need a cutscene that told you what to do, you'd just see this big pirate ship and your mind was already full of an epic battle that would be soon to come. Probably the only game I ever played in which trading is more fun than fighting. It's kind of like Mount and Blade Warband with a huge world where you travel around to fight pirates, sell resources and piss off kings. Hell yeah.

Did I mention it has pirates?

So is the third part any good? Anyone also got fond memories of the second? If you love MOunt and Blade you seriously need to check it out.

From what I've seen it just looks like Port Royale 2 with better graphics and a more detailed interface. Admittedly, there is now much more distinction between a passive (Trader) and aggressive (Adventurer) playthrough and one now no longer needs to dabble in one and the other on occasion to get things done.

However, as I am on a tight budget and have already bought 1 game this month, I'll be giving PR3 a pass for now.

Avast ye scurvy seadogs, thar be booty and plunder ahoy. Man the rigging and shiver me timbers, Port Royale 3 be released!

I loved the PotC: Curse of the Black Pearl game. Had nothing in common with the film except the name and the eponymous ship with her undead crew but was a fantastic blend of RPG, trading, high seas sailing and action and land based exploration and combat. The sequel looked promising but was sadly a bug-ridden fiasco that CTDd to desktop so often I gave up trying to play it.

I've been desperate for a piratey game for some time, particularly a modern PC game compatible with Windows 7 and this looks like it. It's a shame that there are so few games of this sort, blending the above into a wonderful whole. It's very satisfying to upgrade one's ship, take on new crew, find a new sword or purchase a quad-barreled pistol. Getting a second ship to follow adds a wonderful dynamic to the sea combat and like the Star Trek MMO, debarking with choice officers to plunder for hidden treasure and assault port towns is riveting.

Tempted tho I am, I may wait for the price to drop a little. It's not that the price is unreasonable, but that I'm a little short atm. This game has the potential to be a real treasure, while "the industry" continue churning out garbage military shooters and cover-based shooter crap.

Yeah man! I love these type of free exploration, build your empire through trade or conquering type games and there are so little of them! All I can thing of are the Pirate games (PotC was awesome! I loved that, thanks for bringing the memories back), Port Royale Patrician and maybe Mount and Blade.

Has anyone played the actual game yet? I heard the Steam version doesn't work, kinda skeptical right now. I am also waiting for a price drop.

It seems like an interesting game. If I've known about this before, I wouldn't have bought Anno 2070. Interested to know what it's really like though.

I'm currently playing it. It's pretty neat, but nothing overly surprisingly awesome.
Port Royale 2 HD
I'm enjoying it very much, but then again I have a giant pirate fetish.
If you liked the second one, give it a try.
If not, watch some "Let's play's" on Youtube.
That usually does the trick for me.

Also: YAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR MATEY!

Its the biggest let down i had ever though that they could come up with. There is still lots of bugs special with the combat system. You cant control your ships for much more then sail and fire defrent kind of ammo. You cannot control sails and when you try to board enemy ships to take over them you better not killed all crew members and take same speed ship so you can stand next to your enemy ship to be enable to bord them. and you can only give your other ships simple commands and only if you not sailing them. It WAYYYY to automated even in manual combat. Its such a let down in the combat. But the traiting system is great and the ai is alot better to make trait for you when you making your routes. But to me it seems they focused way to much on the traiting system and forgot about the combat. I really loved all the games. But really hate this new piece of shit right now. I am so mad that they forgot all the cool combat from the first two and then came up with this shit. I am so mad i wont play this game anymore to they fix all that crap they came up with. Damn what a let down. So disapointed. Sorry about all the bad english. But i just wanted you to know my current opinion in this shit.
May you all have a nice day ;)

Whoa! Elaborate on this at once!
Well I thought the game feel was similar, that kind of 'take over the world!' vibe. I don't know, apart from that they don't have too many similarities.

You can just roam around, challenge or join factions, trade, conquer and build an empire. That sort of thing. I don't even know what you'd call this type of gameplay.

Sandbox.

Mount and Blade combined with Sid Meier's Pirates! would be a potent brew. I love Mount and Blade.

Yeah man. I was late to the Mount and Blade party and I'm loving it right now. The mix of overworld and intense 3rd person battles is great.
Port Royale doesn't have that amazing 3rd person combat like Pirates and M&B, but if you're interested at all you can always check out the first part for like a Dollar.

It's pretty deep and like anyone will tell ya the trading is massive fun. If that gets boring you can start your own armada and hunt down pirates, treasure and even the ships from the royal armies >:D.

Port Royale 3 is about the same as Port Royale 2 as far as i can tell. The difference as far as i can tell it is the Campaigns, which essentially are designed to explain the whole gameplay piece-meal without the need for a tutorial and they both eventually seamlessly switch into a endless game once you finished them. 2 Choices, either Adventurer or Trader, which just means in which order you get the stuff presented, since it all mixes into each other eventually. You can start as a Trader and essentially create giant Warfleets to plunder everything, or start as a Pirate essentially and later turn to making profit from simple trade.

The biggest changes are obviously graphics, but otherwise it plays pretty similar to PR2 so if you liked PR2, then you can give it a shot, but other than that, well its damn similar, and since you can get PR2 on Steam for like 4 bucks or something, its probably easier on your wallet to get that instead, if you dont mind the outdated graphics anyway.
