Today I found my self thinking, why do I have hand held systems. The answer I came up with was, some of the games are good. But really i find that i dont really get the use of its portablility. 99% of the time im just playing at home, wishing i could be playing on a bigger screen. occasionaly I will go on a trip and it will be useful, but that kind of thing happens mabey once a year for me. So my question is this, do you feel that portable systems portability is mostly a waste or not?

In all my years of gaming I've only seen one 'portable' system that I would consider truly portable. That was the gameboy micro. It is small enough to actually fit in your pocket and not get in the way when you don't need it. With other portable systems if you think you will want to play, then don't it becomes a hassle of caring around a little bag to hold it. It does have the downside of a small screen, but I would rather deal with a small screen when I want to play vrs having to juggle the oversized ds or psp when I wasn't playing.

Portabillity is mostly a waste to me. Rarely I go to a dentist, or wait at the mechanic, or vacation. And when I do I can more easily justify carrying a Berserk novel than a DS. But I buy ds games because they are good, and you can't exactly use two tv's with a wii to make it dual screen.

I will occasionally bring my DS to work with me. It gives me something to do during my intermittent downtime besides surf these boards. That said, I also play it at home a lot, though often in a non traditional gaming locale (i.e. in bed, out on the back deck, etc).

Plus I loves me my DS games. They're so much more fun than next-gen titles.

I've got a PSP, the first day I had it it's screen got scratched, and chipped, the analogue stick fell off not to soon afterwards and there is dust under the screen, oh yeah and the wi-fi stopped working. I can buy a DS for less and happily sacrifice slightly better graphics for a reliable, fun console.

I LOVE portables, I've had most portable systems that have come out since the original Game Boy (yeah, including the NEO-GEO Pocket). I've always found myself amazed by portables because not only can you travel with them but you can sit down (or stand up) on any corner of any building and GAME ON!!. I currently own a DS and a PSP and I actually play those way more than the big boys (360, wii and PC). Just put on a set of nice headphones and enjoy.

Really I don't touch portable systems with a barge pole. I touch them with my hands you idiots. More on topic i couldn't really care for portable systems if i'm at home I have a HD tv so i best use it, if i go away gaming is normally the last thing on my mind. My iPod on the other hand i couldn't go anywhere without it.

I love the fact that I can bring my DS or PSP on long road trips or when I have to wait in long lines. It has saved me many hours of boredom. Of course I do play them at home sometimes, but I bought them for trips and stuff like that.

Yeah, I bring my PSP on road trips and plane rides in order to keep myself sane. And for when it runs out of battery, I read books. But I have to do the PSP first because I would be finished with the book by the time we landed and have nothing for the beach LOL!

I don't use my PSP for everyday gaming, but it helped me kill a lot of time when we were at a cabin with no TV and rotten weather all day. It's also great for keeping my fingers occupied while watching TV, I put on some music, lock it and just mash buttons. Or play Tekken without looking at the screen.

Absolutely NOT a waste for me; but then I use my GBA-SP (yup, still don't feel a need to buy a PSP or DS) when I'm traveling or apt to be doing lots of waiting and not in the mood to read. My line of work can have a lot of "hurry up and wait," so it's appreciated.

They're great to have for when you need to travel. Several flights and bus journeys would have been torment for me if I hadn't had my DS and my MP3 player. That said I tend not to carry it with me.

I bought a portable system for the soul purpose of gaming with my friends at school. My school has two lunch session. Sadly I don't have a lunch session with those people any more so it just sits there collecting dust.

Having both a DS and a PSP, I do enjoy portable gaming...

Then again, getting to the university takes a good hour fifteen by metro, so... I have plenty of time to get through three or so matches in FFT: War of the Lions, or smack some people around in Lunar Knights...

slightly off topic id like to say one of the reasons i do enjoy portable system games is because they have a more "retro" fealing to them. I grew up with nintendo in the 80's and it bothers me that all games for major systems these days seem to be required to be 3D. not that 3D is bad it just that it really isint nesessary for every game.

I'm another one of those guys who got a PSP because of friends in my multimedia course, and have since grown to like portable gaming. We get an hour lunch break, which is plenty of time to fit in some Monster Hunter. Awesome game in co-op, although the controls get a touch unresponsive at times.
