So, I like writing (mainly short stories) and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on what sort of machine would fill the following specification for writing and internetting on the go:
+QWERTY Keyboard (either physical or touch screen)
+WLAN wireless
+Internet browser
+Word Processor
+No subscription fee
+Small
+Enough memory to save a number of word processed documents

Current contenders include the Eee pc and other similar diddy laptop things, and they will definatly do the job, but something slightly smaller would be nice. Thanks.

I severely doubt that there's anything completely accurate to what you're looking for, so a laptop would be your best choice.

If money is no object, Tablet PCs would work best for you. I'd recommend one, but for what you're looking for, you'd do best just to go find a refurbished old one at a computer store and get it for cheap.

If you are determined to go new-school, Fujitsu [http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/productoverview.do?type=NB&pgid=Notebooks#Ultra-Portable] happens to be usually small as hell, and has a handy little touchscreen hybrid good for what you're looking for.

Hope that helped, although you'd do best to carry around a laptop or notebook like the rest of us.

When i was much younger, I used an Alphasmart Pro word processor. not bad, cheap, it processed, no screen or interface to speak of. i'm not sure about wireless, you would have to check that out, but otherwise i recommend it heartily

The Toshiba Portege 3500 has been working out well for me.
It's a tablet and a regular laptop. (screen flips around)

I have just what you are looking for. Circuit City has a TINY mini-notebook from Acer for about 250 bucks. It doesn't have Windows on it, but it does have a hard drive, Internet, word processor, and a QWERTY keyboard. I believe the screen is 6 or 7 inches.

Asus and Acer also make slightly larger (9" being the largest) models that come equipped with Linux and Windows.

Here is one equipped with Linux from Acer, at 8.9":

And here's another Acer with XP Home:

However, the one I saw at Circuit City was MUCH smaller, and did everything you wanted.
