I need some help regarding Portal 2 on the PS3, and I was wondering if anyone on this forum could help me out.

Both me and a friend of mine want Portal 2 so we can play together, but we don't have all that much money at the moment. As far as I can understand, the PS3 version of Portal 2 comes with a free version of Portal on Steam for PC. I was thinking we could get the PS3 version, split the cost, and I'd get the PS3 version of the game and he'd get the PC one so we can play together.

Unfortunately I'm not quite clear on how the whole thing works, so if anyone could explain to me the exact deal for the PS3, and how the steam copy of the game is given to you and verified that would really help me out a lot. Is there a code in the box, or do you have to tie the steam account to your PS3 account, and if so can you tie multiple steam accounts to the same PS3 account?

If anyone can answer these questions for me I would really appreciate it. Thanks, and have a good day.

Yes there's a code in the box. Just give it to friend and he can activate it on his steam account, if you link his steam account with your PSN.

You can't do that. The PS3 and PC copy are the same copy, both activated on the same steam account. You can't cross platform co-op just by buying a PS3 copy. Your friend would need to buy his own PC copy. Then you would activate your PS3 copy with your steam account, which you login to in-game on the PS3.

Solution: split screen

Otherwise, no I am pretty sure, and above posters seem to confirm, that you can't have the ps3 and pc version active at the same time, since they are in fact the same copy

Wow, well that's pretty lame. Anyway, thanks a lot for all of your responses.
