Iv'e just wondered after watching the trailers, why does GlaDOS's head look different from the 1st game?

Why are you people obsessed with the companion cube? It was an inanimate object that I myself never felt much love for and I think it's a bit weird that some people love it so disturbingly much, I mean I read a magazine article about game characters and how we get attached to them and they talked about portal and said "they made us fall in love with a cube! A friggin cube!" I just saw it as another part of the puzzle, I never actually saw this object as a character to connect with and thought the jokes about it and the cake were funny ONCE, then never again. Also, why the constant quoting "the cake is a lie"? I also heard of fans giving the round hoop thing that falls from GlaDOS's wreckage at the end of the game a name and actually seeing it as another in-game character, WTF?
Yeah, portal was great fun and all but I think that this is getting more than just a little obsessive.

And why the fuss about there no longer being a cake in the 2nd game either? What more cake jokes could you possibly want? "the cake is a lie" has been quoted three million times on this very website so don't you think that there have been enough cake jokes? It wasn't even THAT funny, I giggled once but didn't worship it like that. Other people tell me that they want to see the cake again so as to finally decide whether or not it actually IS a lie, I thought the cake was proven as NOT being a lie at the end of the game right before the credits rolled out.

So am I an emotionality empty human being that would GlaDly sell his own mom to slavers just for some extra mayonnaise on his sandwiches and would probably never feel any love for humans or objects ever? Or are some guys just a little bit too far from human society to be healthy?

NO FLAMING OR TROLLING INTENDED, CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM WAS MY AIM NOT TROLLING!!!

This sounds like more on a rant of fans of companion cube and the cake.

I never felt emotionally attached, but I loved the premise and the dark humour surrounding the cube.

And everyone loves the cake...

As I often say, if you don't understand it you don't have to try to. Just accept it.

Ill admit that while there is an argument for the cake and cube being overused by fans, there is a certain humour to them I always enjoy. However, I haven't heard about this ring thing that falls off of GlaDOS at the end, could someone please explain?

The cake wasn't a lie anyway, so we should leave that meme to rest. Only the promise of cake was a lie, which gives birth to another meme: 'The cake is a lie'. Wait a sec.

The cube helps you through one puzzle and one puzzle only. It's just people in the game universe started going crazy due to the isolation and so spoke to the cube. This doesn't happen to Chell, but the cube fixation on our part is due to the undeniable genius of the scrawled messages on the walls.

It's more than the head that's been changed.
Yeah, some stuff are MISSING from the body, like the black cables. Other than missing parts, I can't see anything else being different more than the head.

On the right side of her body the connector thing has now dis-connected and looks like an arm+hand now.
Example
Pause at 2:13
Again, that part has been BROKEN, things look different when they have been broken so no design changes other than that.

While not official, I think I recall reading that it has to do with GlaDOS getting herself re-assembled. So she may have been re-assembled differently. It could also be that since most gamers have better systems now, they took some creative freedom in giving her a bit of a different look.

While the 'Companion' cube is only used in one puzzle, there are referances to the cube in the 'ratman' areas. Those are the hidden behind the scenes areas. From a story perspective it is inferred that other test subject who were isolated started to see the cube as more than an object. Similar to Tom Hanks character in Cast Away, where he makes a friend out of a ball. Some people think this is brilliant others, not so much.

As for the cake issue. Again this depends on your sense of humor. Here you are, going through these deadly tests and the only motivation you are being told about for doing this is that there will be cake later. Quite silly. The whole 'The Cake is a Lie' is also written on walls in various 'rat-man' areas. Hinting that this idea that you will be rewarded with cake is not true. There is also GladDOS' dialog during the 1/2 half of the game where she is teasing how people are eating your reward cake and if you don't stop what you are doing someone else is going to get it.

Also, if you read some of the computer screens near the end of the game you can see a garbled recipe for Black-Forest cake shown scrolling by. Black-Forest is the type of cake shown at the end. The writers fo the game never expected that to take off the way it did. You know those silly internet folks. They latch on to something and run with it.

Many people think that the 'cake' motivation is a bigger deal than it actually is. They enjoyed the joke and want more of it. It's not a deal breaker, like you said, how many more cake referances can they make? I am pretty sure there will be some sort of easter egg in the game to give a little nod to it though.

Not at all, you just don't seem to be getting caught up in the hype. Personally I wouldn't sell my Mom for just Mayo... Mayo and Pickles maybe though....
