If you haven?t played the game yet, don?t bother reading, as it WILL RUIN EVERYTHING FOR YOU SPOILERS SPOILERS OMAHGAWD
Holy hell this is a good game. Well-polished, fun details, great writing, brilliant voice acting, beautiful scenery, etc.
The locked test-chambers in the old Aperture labs made me giggle (aw yeah mantis men), and the hint at the missing Borealis experiment makes me all tingly inside. Maybe HL2EP3 isn?t going to pull a Duke Nukem Forever?
A bit short though. Not as short as it's predecessor, but I had hoped for 10+ hours.
I finished the single-player it in a single six hour sitting, with perhaps 2 hours of solid ?what am I supposed to DO here!?? thinking. Mostly, it had a nice flow to it. The learning curve is great, for that matter.
However, at some points I felt restricted. In the old Aperture labs, in-between tests, it felt like I was just looking around for a certain white spot to shoot a portal onto. The part where you have to fondle around with the white jelly, where Cave Johnson has this anger-induced revelation about AI, took me like 20 minutes to get past. First finding the exact spot where the developers wanted me to find, and getting the timing right. It felt restricted. Non-flowing.
I also felt a lack of introduction to the propulsion- and white gel, as well as the excursion funnel. And what happened to the pneumatic diversity vent? (I haven?t played co-op yet, so I don?t know if it is co-op only).
On Day-one DLC, I don't get what the fuzz is about. It's just... Hats and skins? It's not like you get anything out of them in the first place!
It's merely there for the Team Fortress 2 hat enthusiasts.
All in all, holy hell this is an amazing gaming experience why haven?t you bought several copies yet.
And what did you think of the ending song?
I don?t think it is half bad, but certainly not near as good as Still Alive. But what are you gonna do, they sort of HAD to put it in.
On a random note, I was a bit bugged by the new elevators.
