What do you think about portal.

I personally found it innovative, fun and a plot that dosen't feel overwhelming nor underrweight. it made me feel like an outsider looking through somebody elses eyes. Sorry i'm ramblin'. Do you think it is good or bad?

That is the 8th portal topic I have seen on this forum in a week.

Oh and I loved it, so did 90% of this forum. the other 10% either hates <Valve/fps/computers/fun/something else> or couldn't be bothered.
Thank you for your time.

It was fun. I don't know why everyone thinks that it comes from the stars. It was fun, entertaining, and most of all, FUN. To be perfectly honest, there wasn't much story aside from:

"This robot is going to tell you to do things. You do them like it's little slave. The robot turns out to be(...) It then sings to you."

Also, define terrible. I don't mean games that you aren't a fan of. There isn't an ocean of terrible games. The majority of them work from a mechanicle standpoint, and a lacking story doesn't make it suck, unless it was as unbarebly dreadful as Clock Tower 3.

It was good, but I really think people need to cut back on the topics of it. It's beginning to grind, having these identical topics one after another.

It was okay. Nothing spectacular, but kept me amused. Can we move on now?

While it was far from the greatest game ever it is one of the reason I count Valve as the exsception to my belief the all game designers are fundementally incompotent.

The gaming industry is not that bad if I think about it. Besides Bobby Kotick's cash hoovering and plastic crap, there's some pretty decent games coming out in the near future. Not as amazing as Portal, but certainly keeping me entertained at least.

Hey what can I say? Simple games entertain simple minds.

Portal is simple? I don't think most casual gamers would get very far in Portal. No offense, but it does require quite a bit of sideways thinking. Then again, maybe there are some casuals who excel at that. In which case, play Portal and graduate to the big leagues.
Ironically, portal is what bought me from what you would call "a casual gamer" into a more open gamer (I refuse to define myself as hardcore).

It really didn't that a story much more complex than that. Its just a game about a woman doing tests with a portal gun.But it was also well written and had good gameplay.

I wasn't referring to Portal when I said simple games, I was referring to the rest of the games industry (i.e trying to counter the point that ALL GAMES ARE TERRIBLE BESIDES PORTAL), though Portal is loved by my casual gaming friends, who have indeed completed it (of course, excluding the time trials).

However, be how great Portal is and isn't, it's definitely a defining game of this generation, and hell, if a sequel came out, I'd buy that.

Portal represents something I've been saying for ever.

Simplicity on top, and the rest (deepness, humor, ect) goes under. Its like a Nintendo game, Zelda for example. Simple story simple game play, yet so many people love it.

I don't think there will be a sequel. I do, however, think that Chell(protagonist) will appear in Half Life 2: Episode 3, which should be out around 2015, if we're lucky.

That is my point exactly. Just because a game is entertaining and functional doesn't make it the Jesus of modern gaming. The whole idea of games are that they entertain you. Everyone likes something. Terrible games do exist, they're just nowhere near as frequent as the title makes out. Again, I'd like to stress that Portal is nothing brilliant, it is not a golden chalice from the breasts of Shiva, it is JUST. A GOOD. GAME.

Portal is vastly overappreciated - but it's still very, very damn good.

Maybe i think it's overappreciated because some jokes in the game went over my head.
