So that's why my copies of Amnesia and The Ball were updated...huh. Good to know.
I doubt it's an ARG, I think it's just a joke. But if it is: Yay ARG!

It is definitely an ARG, there are all sorts of hidden things going on. Check out that wiki link in the Original Post

Haha did anyone see the fixes they put up on April first? They were for each of these games and in the descriptors said things like "Introduced more bugs" and hash tagged with #Happypotatoday or similar. I wondered what all that was about.

Edit: They were tagged with #PotatoFoolsDay apparently

Calling it now, potatoes are the new cake.
Well, they would've had to come up with something new, seeing how the cake meme has been run into the ground, dug back up, and then buried again.

Of all objects Valve could have chosen to go memetic, they choose potatoes?

That is, assuming potatoes have any significance in Portal 2.

Oh, you have no idea. They've got cake in the first game, now we're getting potatoes.

Really though, I think this is more related to the upcoming Defense of the Ancients II than Portal 2.

Oh and they finally issued a release date for Portal 2.

Up until April 3rd, the listed release date was just... "April".

April 19th is the new day to look forward to!

I really doubt this is "advertising" for Portal 2 as many say it, it's probably an announcement for something else altogether; or just some fucked-up ARG designed to purposefully mess with our heads for no discernible reason.

It ain't no advertising.
