Well Mass Effect was always meant to be a trilogy.(It was in the production notes of the first game.)

So I doubt the prequel will be the next Mass effect to be released. Maybe after that.

Consider it the Halo : Reach of the Mass Effect Franchise.

[small]I worry about the ODST of the ME franchise[/small]
I sacrifice a goat every night, praying that will never come to be...
Joking, its only a chicken. But yea, ODST was a disaster.
That's where all the chickens went.....

You must be getting very bored of roast chicken by now....
Yea, it doesn't even have flavor for me any more. You wouldn't believe the shit I have to go through to get a new chicken every day.
Yeah, there's a local poultry famine where you live, i Bet.

Can you buy live chickens on Ebay?
Only when I get really desperate. Thankfully, there are farms all over the place where I live. I can't risk letting Mass Effect: ODST see the light of day.
Just a quick thought, but what would ODST stand for in the Mass Effect Universe?

Oh-Deargod-Shepard-Turd?
Over-Desperate-Super-Tuxedo's?
Oh-D'oh-So-Trashy?

A prequel would be awesome. The First Contact War sounds like it was a tense affair. If the game could capture that sense of discovery, how awesome would that be? I'd love to play as a young David Anderson. I know that means a fixed character, but it would give BioWare a chance to tell a story in a slightly different way. Of course, he could also be a party member.

But the suppositions made in that article are reaching a bit. Everyone loves to make theories, but the trailer doesn't really give us much to go on. The similar looking rifle could merely be the result of a recycled weapon model.

They're still making ME3 don't worry. :) It looks like Bioware Montreal has been working on an FPS, which fits for a prequel (First Contact/Skyllian Blitz). Well I'm excited to see what it'll be in...three weeks?! Blast it.

But not the kind of thing you could make a Bioware game into. Most of the ground battle was human teams getting bombarded from orbit, then the Turian warships getting devastated by the Alliance retaliation. After that it's all politics and clean-up.
I doubt you could make an FPS out of the First Contact War, let alone an RPG.

I would fucking kill for a Mass Effect prequel set during the Skyllian Blitz.
This however would work as an FPS.

To be honest I'm making the bet that it's a new IP. As someone stated earlier, they wouldn't use Mass Effect and Dragon Age to promote the unveiling if it turned out to be the next in one of them.

But speaking of a prequel like the first contact war, to be honest I'd rather that not happen. The problem with making prequels like that is that we already know how it's going to end. What major choices can you make that can impact the story to any significant degree? No, I'd much rather this trailer be the teaser for something new.

Why does it have to be a FPS or have the same basic gameplay as Mass Effect? I'm sure the studio is capable of exploring other styles.

IF this is true, I wonder what the uplink bonus is? It's a prequel so no story or morality followthrough...

With regards to the First Contact War, it couldn't be either which is why it's very unlikely to be from that time.
But if you want reasons why it's not likely to be an Simulator or quiz game, they don't really fit the setting.

Ohhhh, I kind of see why you're against that now. I wasn't thinking about an RTS or sim type gamelay at all. More like...Rogue Squadron I guess. We've had games in the past that featured both third person combat and flight sections (Shadows of the Empire comes to mind).
From what I read about the First Contact War, it seems that two major things are mentioned: Fleet vs Fleet battles and a planetary siege by the turians. Surface conflicts could have also happened.

That in mind, a game based on the First Contact War could allow different types of gameplay:
-Large space battles (think of what we've seen in Star Wars: Battlefront. I know, I'm referencing too much Star Wars). BioWare actually (lazily) attempted this in Knights of the Old Republic. After leaving a planet, there were two or three times that enemy fighters would attack the Ebon Hawk and the player had to command a turret to take them all out.

-Gameplay that would incorporate the smuggling of food and supplies to a planet in siege. I can't think of a reference for this, but I do think it can be done.

-Surface conflicts (with gameplay like what we've seen in the Mass Effect series so far)

I might be stretching. I've just always really wanted to see a game that approaches space combat in a new way. Something that would let us be able to step into the shoes of a fleet commander, but without it resorting to RTS-like gameplay. Sooo I'm just going to hope for this until the actual reveal in December probably proves me wrong.

So does that mean that Halo is also part of the Mass Effect universe I mean look at this weapon it looks like one from Mass Effect too.

Seriously just because the weapon looks the same doesn't mean its going to be in the same universe we are seeing a game made by the same developer after all I mean if I had the programming for a weapon or a weapon attachment which is what we are going on here. I mean I would use the same coding as long as the weapon its attached to doesn't look exactly like it if similar at all.

I'm guessing new IP.

Maybe I'm not remembering things straight, but wasn't Bioware going to announce a new IP at E3? I remember because people dashed my dreams with this news when I said I hoped it would be Jade Empire 2.

And then their show was cancelled or something.

So this is probably that thing.

Probably Mass Effect related by the looks of the gun, but who knows?

To be honest I would like to see something new from Bioware. I love Mass Effect but if you don't aim for the new horizons who knows what you will miss.

This is defiantly looking to be Mass Effect related.

I just want ME3 so much more than I want anything else right now. I want to finish Shepard's story and then see some new stuff, but lets focus on the trilogy right now Bioware.
