So I saw this footage over at gameinformer:

Note: The Music playing over it is not part of the original video, it was added after the initial video (which is silent).

It's short and not much to go on, but it looks distinctly "Souls" like.

The rumor mill suggests that this is From Softwares PS4 exclusive "Project Beast", which is likely just a placeholder name (but who knows). Considering it's exclusivity to Playstation, this could very well be the next Demons Souls given that games exclusivity to Sony.

Others suggest it's an elaborate mod of Dark Souls (can't be of Dark Souls 2 as it isn't out on PC long enough for something of this quality). I'm more inclined to believe it's genuine early footage of the next souls game (or whatever title Fromsoft wish to go with).

If it's true, consider my interests peeked. A completely fresh new world of despair to explore and SHOTGUNS!

EDIT: Here's the Neogaf thread that Gameinformer sourced, though I believe this isn't the origin.

Other evidence to suggest its the next Demon Souls is the fact that Miyazaki didn't direct DS2, and this could be the project he was working on.

Also the song that was added is part of the Demon Souls OST, so whoever put this up must either believe or know this to be the sequel to Demon Souls.

There's been a rumor going around that this is actually a Shadow Tower sequel, but I find that to be highly unlikely, given that that franchise is virtually unknown. The old Sony president is on record as saying that they severely mishandled the Demon's Souls IP, so Sony choosing Shadow Tower over a Demon's Souls sequel (a game that would be a guaranteed system seller) seems like idiocy.

On topic, that bladed weapon the character wields: It looks like a long curved staff with a blade that looks like sorta like an axe, then when the character is about to fight the boss looking monster, he/she flicks it and it FUCKING FOLDS OUT.

FUCKING. METAL.

Also pay attention to the character's cape as the clips progress, it looks like it gets progressively more marked with a red substance, maybe soaked in blood?

EDIT: Also, this is important. Go check out the webm's over on the original NeoGAF thread. Or OP might want to edit in links to them. The webm's are WAY better quality and you can see tons of details. Its at least better than shitty youtube compression.

Good Idea, and done. I wanted to keep this somewhat simple and stuck with a youtube vid as I wasn't sure if it was a hoax or not and didn't to work too hard on a thread only to be told it was debunked already.

And yes, that flicking action weapon is pretty awesome too. Maybe we'll see a lot more variety in weapon animations this time around.

On 0:12-0:13 it looks like the character is holding a gun. Does... does this mean there'll be gunplay in it? 'Cause if it's like your standard Solomon Kane style witch hunter with a badass hat, rapier, and musket it totally has my support.

EDIT: Double checked, at 0:10-0:11 he fires it!

IT IS A GUN! :D
It's definitely taking inspiration from that kind of fiction. Monster/Witch/Vampire hunters with late 1700's early 1800's tech. I was very recently wondering how they could change the flavour of a Souls game without messing with the themes too much and this is a perfect setting to do just that.
I'm very interested to see how they integrate gunpoweder weapons into this game.

From what I can tell, the "gun" in that clip looks like some sort of blunderbuss or shotgun type weapon. I mean you can see multiple enemies get hit at the same time. Its an interesting balance From seems to be playing here.

The following is just conjecture based upon my knowledge and experience of FromSoft games: Blunderbusses are very powerful but crude weapons, you'd likely need a very high strength requirement to wield one single-handed. But that isn't what interests me. No, what interests me are the possibilities for what such a weapon would fire.

It seems to me that just having something like that just fire buckshot in a Souls game would be incredibly rote. My mind just goes wild with the possibilities of mixing different forms of titanite (or what have you) with a weapon like that. You could imbue the weapon with fire/lightning/dark/etc. or you might imbue the actual ammo, OR you could sacrifice your special titanite (or find a special form especially suited for the purpose) to be crushed or ground and have THAT serve as ammo, basically having a pure elemental energy projector, just a shotgun that shoots pure lightning or pure fire. It might give some rudimentary spell power to melee builds, provided there even IS magic in the game.

I dunno, its just wild mass guessing at this point, the wild conjecture following new footage of a Souls game is part of what makes the series so great IMO, and damn if it isn't fun to bounce theories off other fans while we wait.

The atmosphere feels very Brothers Grimm-y or Van Helsing-y IMO.

Too bad it's PS4 exclusive. It looks pretty damn interesting with a very cool aesthetic that would totally work for a Souls game. Oh well, I'll watch an LP of it I guess.

yeah, that's definitely a gun the character is using; heck, part of the speculation for Shadow Tower comes from that as that series had firearms unlike King's Field which Dark Souls is an unofficial sequel to. Guns would give a very different dynamic to fighting as their sheer power alone shifts things around.
