Possible newcomer to Warhammer 40k

TL;DR: I'm thinking about getting into the Warhammer 40k tabletop game. Advice?

SO. BACKSTORY TIME.
My group of friends and I have been playing magic for almost two years now and it has been an incredible boon to all of us. As of late, while we've not missed a pre-release yet... the game has lost its novelty. We still enjoy it, but we don't play nearly as much as we used to. Warhammer's always looked interesting and has some stellar lore. I'm thinking about trying it out. But, it looks like a large investment. Any advice? Opinions on Warhammer?

Do you have a LOT of disposable income? If yes, then knock yourself out. Invest in a big, flat, sturdy table. Read the rulebooks. Ask the Games Workshop reps for beginner advice. They should be helpful.

Be forewarned, this can become an extremely expensive hobby.
